got this email today and it made me laugh

Quote :
"I am perplexed that so many of my friends are against a mosque being built near Ground Zero. I think it should be the goal of every American to be tolerant. The mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance. After all we live in the land of the free.....

That is why I also propose, that two gay nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque thereby promoting tolerance within the mosque.
We could call the Clubs "The Turban Cowboy" and "You Mecca Me So Hot."

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork and have an open BBQ with spare ribs as its daily special.

Across the street a very daring lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret" with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop, there would be room for an Adult Toy Shop, called "All Ah Need," in flashing neon lights.

If you agree in promoting tolerance and you think this is a good plan, pass it on."

yeah, that emails is a good example of garden-variety stupid.

i've seen a lot of these from my dad, who thinks everyone wants to get the FWD:Fwd:FWD:fwd bullshit. it's amazing what these people think passes as clever and witty these days. Don't get me wrong: it's not offensive, it's just not funny. it's like listening to a retarded child try to tell a joke.

although i will admit "you mecca me so hot" made me chuckle.

Hmmmph.... if the French like it, maybe i should like it. It sounds so enlightened.

Quote :

they seemed to have spiced it up a bit at the end, but i can't really explain how, because unfortunately as a victim of the American system of institutionalized ignorance, I have been deprived the benefits of multilingual education by my provincial and xenophobic countrymen who keep electing knuckledragging cretins to the local school boards.

Regardless, I'm certain the French version is magnificently better and much more witty.

"A little tolerance, dammit!

I am puzzled when I see so many of my friends speak against the proposed construction of a mosque in New York near Ground Zero. I think everyone should strive to remain tolerant. And it is in a spirit of tolerance that the mosque should be allowed.

Therefore I suggest that two boxes homosexual ften their doors close to this building, to help spread the concept of tolerance inside the mosque. These clubs could adopt as signs "The cowboy in a turban" (The turban cowboy) and "The Mecca of the guys" (You mecca me so hot).

Right in front of the mosque was perfectly free to settle a delicatessen ("In the pig all is good") which was held in the terrace with barbecue standing twice a week as a daily special of delicious ribs pork, alternating with lenses morteau sausage (with a wine from the Jura), andouilette mustard, tripe Provencal, cassoulet of Castelnaudary (with Cahors). A few meters from the mosque on the left, I could see well enough Aubade open a flagship boutique - New York requires - "The underside of Cecilia" (Cecilia Keeps no secret), with mannequins in the window presenting situation (and 3D) the alluring underwear brand. To do in-dare I say-the lingerie shop on the right of the mosque would be seen sparkle day and night the neon sign of a giant trade sex toys, and at the corner, of course, the Arab corner open till two o'clock in the morning to the thirsty Corona, Miller, Budweiser's "Chez Franck and Zahia.

If you also agree to promote tolerance, spread ..."

NY Republicans: Please don't build a mosque; a titty bar would be better.

Quote :
"A new Public Policy Survey of New York Republicans shed some light on the paradoxical behavior of the GOP. It turns out that the self titled Party of Family Values would rather build a strip club on Ground Zero than a mosque. 21% of Republicans supported the strip club, and only 4% supported the mosque."

The restaurant and gift shop at the memorial are pretty fucking offensive; a few NY-based online blogs and press are giving it some coverage but there doesn't seem to be enough people upset about it

You guys don't think it's offensive to sell a hoodie sweatshirt of the twin towers and other 9/11 trinkets a few feet from where thousands of unidentified people's remains are interred?

Not really.

There's a gift shop at most major attractions. Whether or not you want to consider the memorial an attraction is semantics.

Where does the profit go? If it's back towards operating the memorial or to families of victims, I literally have zero problem with it.

Found my answer:
Quote :
"But spokesman Anthony Guido said the shop is essential to keep the museum going, since it receives no federal or state funds and is financed entirely by private donations. Between 60 and 70 percent of the museum's annual operating cost of about $60 million will come from revenue generated from the gift shop and the museum's admission fee, which is $24 for an adult, he told NBCNews.com."

http://www.cnbc.com/id/101698711

People can not like it all day long, but until someone else steps up to pay for all the nice things it's not going anywhere.

I'd check it out but the entire area is a cluster fuck of fanny packs. If they need to sell stupid hoodies and cheese plates to fund the monument maybe they got alittle too ambitious.

the lemonade stand is two inches from the gravestone

"this is inappropriate"

the lemonade stand is three inches from the gravestone
