within the week

folks, it is your job to tear it apart and tell me why I should run away.

Tool box on truck is being sold with truck

Asking $4,900 or best offer. Priced to sell! "

first order of bidness would probably be a repaint (black, duh) and removing the 3" body lift (any ideas the difficulty/cost thereof?) though I do like the suspension lift. Everything else looks great to me though

the front end... the front axle, the knuckles will bend... bad! the 1500 front end hates anything over 33's they might seem fine now but with just daily use they will mess up. It is a good looking truck but the 1500s hate big tires.

why is that? my tired, half-drunken brain is failing to conceptualize why that would be the case

is it just the increased tire contact area/friction/difficulty in turning big tires at slow speeds that warps the knuckles?

if the seller says anything about it being a show truck or never off-roaded, etc

FUCKIN RUN

also...rear end was replaced?

and the pic isnt clear, but are those blocks on the rear axle?

best way to put it, the axles are not strong enough for those size tires plus the size of the truck. You might get lucky and not have any problems. The Dodge 1500 front axles have a very tall and skinny knuckle compared to their 2500 which has a much more stout knuckle

there's a reason this work had to be done. it's because that redneck has rode the damn thing ragged.

Don't buy a chrysler. You'll be replacing that transmission again in no time and swapping new computers in like candy.

this is why i have you guys

i was also looking at this one

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1747121700.html

what do you think? it's priced high but if I could get him to around $5k i'd be interested

basically what i'm looking for:
-extended/king/crew cab, need to seat four adult men
-4x4
-v8 or comparable diesel (would prefer the latter)
-tow package
-full size bed (though a short bed isn't a deal breaker)
-clean/in good shape
-would like duel exhaust, aftermarket wheels/tires, suspension lift, etc. but don't need it

-$5500 max budget

Too much money. Didn't ctnz71 sell his similar one for about $3500?

If you're buying a mid-90's truck with relatively high mileage you'd be doing yourself a favor if you buy a Toyota.

Here: http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88491

Clean Tacoma w/165k miles for $5500 and willing to come down on the price. I think you could possibly do better if you look around a bit, but this could be a really good truck if you can get him to come down a little on the price. As long as you keep it up to date on maintenance and repairs it's not going to ever drop too much below what it's worth right now.

awesome, thanks, i'll definitely look in to that. I saw the TRD plate on it but didnt notice the factory markings, but 4x4 is a must. v8 is also vastly preferable, or at least a ~5L+ displacement configuration

i would love a toyota, it's just so damn hard to find what i want anywhere NEAR my budget cap

It's got locking hubs, so it should be a 4x4.

Why do you need so much displacement? A V6 Yota should be rated somewhere around 5k lbs towing capacity. It might not like 5k, but it'll pull it on occasion just fine. What are you going to be doing with the truck?

brakes are usually the limiting factor on your towing anyway. why do you think you need a bigger engine?

an i've never seen an extended cab in which a grown man would be comfortable. i also hate giving up bed space for the 4 door cabs. i'd save my money and get a 4 door tacoma. the 4 door dakotas with the 4.7L V6 would also be in your price range, even with 4wd.

I've always thought the engines in these trucks sound good. However, this is a ragged out truck that will cost a lot of money down the road. I'd pass if it were my money and get one with less lift and tire. Don't get a Tacoma they're gay.

that chevy wasnt bad....it was a z71 which means 5.7 L v8 and locking rear differential....tow package is there as well......I have tipped the scales at the rock quarry with our chevy z71 at 15,000 lbs and it pulled it just fine.....

currently considering the following

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1753319952.html (pending drivetrain configuration, best deal)

dear god i hope he reads my email first

though I'm wondering about the displacement

on occasion I will be pulling a large trailer (think u-haul) full of band equipment with 4 dudes in the cab, is that too much stress on a 3.0 v6?

heres a secret... stay away from anything thats already been lifted unless you plan on using it as mostly off-road. Get a good stock truck, no matter what any one says its prob been abused if it is lifted and/or has off road type tires. Plus no matter what lift is on an IFS truck you will be paying for new CV's and such in the long run. STOCK TRUCKS are better. Find something that's not lifted or with off-road tires

yes, it's plenty. you're worrying too much about engine size.

and i agree with this^. a lift to try and look cool on the street isn't good for anything except wearing out a drive train faster.

naw i need a truck for other applications too, hauling a band trailer is one of the more taxing

so, i believe i've talked to enough people that have convinced me to stay away from lifts/oversize tires and chrysler trannys.

this is my new target:

http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/1751310449.html

i really wanted diesel anyway, just figured it was a pipe dream. as per JeepMan's suggestion, I'd love a 2nd gen cummins. the one linked above is pretty much everything i could ask for - power, diesel, size, comfort, manual, clean, and purty

think i'd be lowballing if I offered him $6k cash?

I'm about to pull the trigger on this sucker. just need a couple more hours to mull it over, it's a much bigger truck than I need but DAMN I want it...and I can make it happen.

In my experience rushed decisions on big purchases are usually poor decisions. Based on the language of your post, I think you might stretching yourself a little thin and will regret it later.
