Would anyone have any suggestions for how to meet readers/writers in the NCSU area? When I hang out at coffee shops in the area, I never see anyone reading, only people working on laptops. Short of asking every single one of them if they are a reader/writer, I'm not sure how that would work. I've been to a poetry reading at the Royal Bean, but it was a senior citizen convention. I also have been to a few book clubs with similar results. I'm specifically interested in meeting any readers/writers in the < 30 crowd. I graduated a few years ago (and know no English majors), I just happen to still live in the area.

What type of writers? I write for magazines. And I go to coffee shops and read (though not as much as I'd like anymore. Damn time commitments.)

Personally I'd be creeped out if someone randomly approached me in a coffee shop while I was trying to enjoy my book

My church has a 20-somethings book club. I'm sure there are others in the area as well. I'd try going to Quail Ridge Books and asking them for advice.

Most bookstores and libraries have book clubs if that's the the sort of thing you're looking for.

http://www.meetup.com likely has an Triangle Area Writers group too

i also came to say meetup.com
i've never tried it but heard of it because there's a huge meetup.com group that goes rock climbing the same night my friends and i go every week. from what i hear you can find a group for pretty much everything, or you could always start your own.
