Help!!! Everything else works normal. I insert a disc and it doesn't play...both games and blue-rays. I already tried reformatting, restoring the original factory settings.

It's because you can't use an apostrophe correctly that it failed.

Also maybe if you tried blu-rays instead of blue-rays that might work out a little better.

open it up and spray it with a lot of canned air duster. I was only halfway kidding when I said blow on it. a lot of times that can fix your problems with cd/dvd/whatever drives.

^^Yeah, I used either that guide or a similar one to replace my Blu-ray laser. Ordered one off ebay for $50. It's been working fine since I replaced it in October.

I sent mine to Sony and they fixed it, but it was under warranty.

ditto for me, out of warranty but I've yet to send it back or do the fix.

I really need to get on that.

I guarantee you this has never been the case. It's like when people would say new game X causes 360s to RROD. Total coincidence.

did a firmware update fix this?

Otherwise, I'm gonna either have to send it in or try the fix myself.

I've not had the thing on since the failure.

nope. Lens cleaner didn't work, update didn't work, disassembly to ensure drive was on track didn't work (mine is like 3 years old).

had the thing for 3 years, only played it a few times. I mainly used it to watch Blu-ray DVDs.

Oh well, just put it on the credit card and sending it in to Sony.

Fuckers better gimme back this one (but working), I got that CECHE01 model. HOLLER.

ahh *forehead smack*

yeah, it wouldn't play Blu-Ray, DVD, CD, PS3 game discs. It doesn't even spin up.

It happened immediately following upgrade to 3.01 firmware. I was playing a game, stopped for a while, and started F@H on the PS3. It wanted me to update and so I did. The very next day the disc issue started.

I had been running F@H pretty much since the week that I got it, and had it for 1.5 years before the failure.

what version do you have?

mine's the original 20gb no wifi one. it still reads discs just fine, but if i don't put a fan in front of it after about an hour of HD content (1080p games like LBP really get it), it'll overheat and shut down. it's not enclosed and has plenty of ventilation otherwise. it just hates me. anyway, if it overheats, i have to set the fan up and leave it off for an hour or so to cool down. i doubt that's your issue but that's all i could think of to contribute.

it says pretty cool, and I did have a fan on it once I started folding (I'd read in a forum about people having cooling issues).

I got that 80GB model, which was baller as fuck until the disc drive bricked out.

they'll probably send you a refurbished one, instead of your old one back.
