I don't understand why people associate hipsters and emo kids, besides that the two both happen to be youth movements...

- Hipsters are arrogant and pretentious. They're self-obsessed and generally apathetic towards the rest of the world. They're typically college age or older.
- Emo kids hate themselves and think the world is out to cause them pain. They have low self-esteem and cut themselves for attention. They're typically still in high school.

The two subcultures have very little in common.
