DJ Clue - The Professional....strictly for Ruff Ryders Anthem (Remix)
Bulworth soundtrack....just for Ghetto Supastar
Sporty Thievz....for No Pigeons

back in the day I would go to the used CD store if I was buying a CD for just one song.

I know i've done this, I can't think of any examples though. I've bought several CDs after hearing one song and hoping for the best, rarely if ever worked out.

I last bought music in 1999. Someone got me a Matchbox 20 album as a gift around 2004 and I remember thinking "why did you waste your money?". I'd like to say I made up for it by going to live shows, but I hate live shows. The sound quality is almost always horrible. So my point is if you buy music you're a sucker, so if you buy an entire album for a single you're still a sucker.

i was just thinking about this the other day, why the hell would i buy music before listening to the entire album to make sure i like it? i'm glad i can download everything illegally, then go back and pay for it if i feel like supporting the record label.

BG - Chopper City in the Ghetto (Bling Bling)
Eve 6 - Eve 6 (Inside Out) - I listened about twice (really never gave it a chance) then took it outside and hit it with a baseball bat

I got my tapes from some dude in the trailer park a mile from my neighborhood.
They weren't "professional" bootlegs like you'd find in NYC, but rather just some recordable tapes from Wal-Mart. He had a nice dolby dual deck system and he did allow you to get the nice Cr02 tapes for only a dollar more.

there was a really good cd store in greensboro called bb's (they're closed now) where you could listen to their entire stock at listening stations and they had lists of new arrivals of used stuff that you could browse at the stations. it made for informed purchases in a time pre-cable-internet. i spent a lot of time in that place in high school.

but now that i think about it, i didnt appreciate either kid a or ok computer fully until years later either

bends has been the only radiohead album i fell in love with upon first listen

Record labels thought they could get away with selling millions of albums with one good song on it for ever.

But rather than own up to selling an inferior product for decades, they'd rather view their customer base as thieves.

Yet, the fact that the release of Exile on Mainstreet being #1 in the UK like 40 years after it was first released is proof that people are willing to pay for music if it's any good.

I can honestly say I don't think I have ever bought an album for 1 song. The closest scenario I can think of is The Anniversary's album "Your Majesty." I enjoyed "Designing a Nervous Breakdown" and bought the next album accordingly. Well, it turned out that "Sweet Marie" is about the only song I really liked on that entire record, but darn if it isn't a good, catchy song.

But that is not really the intent of the thread I know. That was more an accidental "I only like one song on the album" as opposed to buying an album for one song.

Meantime and Betty have been in my regular rotation for the last 15 years or so. I still love the fuck out of some Helmet.
