My inspection is due and I was wondering if I need a rear view mirror to pass. The sucker fell off on the way to work the other morning. In some places, I know you only need either a passenger side mirror(which I have) or a rear view, but I'm not sure if that's the case in NC or not.

I think you need rear view and drivers side mirror. I remember reading the code back when I built that dune buggy.

The crazy thing is you need a rear view mirror even if your rear view is obstructed. They had to put one on that V-8 Lotus in the other thread even though it has no rear window.

So passenger side is optional, but you need the other two?

i'd suggest going to an auto shop and paying $2-$3 for an adhesive to mount it back to the windshield...I had to do this with a previous vehicle of mine, although it was because I wanted the rearview and not for inspection reasons

there's a little bit of prep work to glue it back on, but its really not a big deal. there's a two part adhesive and you have to properly clean the glass and mounting surface on the mirror. but again, its really not a big deal. everything you need comes in a kit for $3 and it takes all of 10 minutes to put it back together. but do it at the end of the day, it has to cure for a couple of hours within a certain temperature window.

If it came with it. You need it. Only exception is bed cover on a truck.

Hmm. I know that a few people on the exige forums remove their review mirror (I mean, you're just going to be looking at the intercooler, you can't see anything else), but installed a camera... I wonder if the camera is considered an acceptable replacement in NC... I'm sure if you have the inspection done at the Lotus Dealership, it wouldn't be an issue (because they understand the situation and may be more sympathetic compared to an inspection station that's more "by the book").

cars have to have a rear-view mirror and the driver side mirror; trucks don't have to have the rear-view, but have to have a passenger side mirror if they don't

Depends on the state. Here in WA, they don't explicitly say it has to be a mirror. So I use a rear view camera instead. Different states have different wording though. Go look up the NC laws and figure it out, should only take 10-15 minutes of interweb reading

It doesn't matter what kind of vehicle it is, it has to have the drivers side mirror.......and one other rear-facing mirror. (for you reta's, that means either a sideview or a right hand mirror)

What's the law on motorcycles? Most of the old ones only run one. I might as well have none, mine vibrate so badly.

^ not completely sure but I think you only need a single mirror. I remember my brother having to put on one last time he got his inspected.

in my experience, the do-it-yourself stuff sucks and it's worth it (~$10-$15) to just go to a glass place and get them to stick it on for you
