Depends on what all you had to do

Still not my idea of a rip-roaring good time, though.

its interesting to see how really fake people react though. It's almost like they're reacting to their bullshit not mattering anymore rather than to the incident itself

yeah, people's integrity (or lack there of) really shines through.

juggling three phones, remaining emotionally strong for those who are scared, running errands, offering encouragement without sounding patronizing, handling visitors, all the while doing your best not to fall apart yourself. it all feels so...grown up.

It isn't pleasant, no. I've driven more people to the hospital than I care to count (though I'm pretty sure that, after the next one, they'll give me a little light and siren to put on my car).

My favorite will always be the guy who kinda-sorta tried to kill himself jumping off of something and broke both his ankles.

"Dude, you need to go to the hospital. Your ankles are clearly broken."

"No...I think they're fine...and if I go to the hospital I'll get in trouble for being drunk."

"Nah dude, doctor-patient privilege. You're fine."

"Yeah, but...they'll find out how I hurt myself and make me talk to a shrink. I don't want to have to talk to a shrink."

"Nah, just lie about it. Say you fell down some stairs."

---

30 minutes later, in the hospital:

Nurse: "How did you hurt yourself?"

Guy: "I'm SOOOOOO clumsy. I fell down some stairs."

Nurse: (Upon looking at two wounds that aren't in any way consistent with falling down stairs; also, upon hearing my roommate and I laughing our asses off in the waiting room) "How many stairs was it?"

Guy: "I dunno. Guys, how many was it?"

Roommate: (through laughter) "Enough that I wouldn't want to fall down them!"

Me: "It's not how many stairs there were, it's just that last one's a doozy!"

Back when I was still in school I used to have to take a friend to the ER about once a year... lucky for them I'm well versed in first aid.

in all seriousness, if anyone ever needs to vent about medical drama (i mean like loved one or family medical drama - not actual job-related stuff, cause that ain't my specialty since i'm not a medical professional) i can probably relate and can lend an understanding ear

for serious.

(esp about the being the responsible one in emergency situations - if you need to talk you can talk to me! i can at least listen)
