I think I'm a carrier... Eric got it when we first started dating (had it for ~2 months) and I didn't get sick at all
but that sucks for you 6/1/2010 12:21:35 PM |

just watch your fever and whether or not your spleen starts to enlarge too much (and you'll actually be able to see it creepily enough) ... i almost ruptured mine when i had mono.
and i also had a fever over about 102 for 3 or 4 days. just be careful. ] 6/1/2010 12:22:05 PM |

Been there, done that. My husband had mono back when we were dating, but I never got it. HOWEVER, the guy who sat next to him in one of his classes ended up with it.

mono sucks, mine lasted about a month though christmas and new year's eve
just plan on staying in bed and not eating much
most people get really sick for about a week (call it hell week)
i seriously only got out of bed to use the bathroom during that time 6/1/2010 12:30:29 PM |

^^ruh roh! yeah i can't believe that of all my years in college i never caught it, especially with living in a sorority house and being in such close proximity with so many people, drinking after friends, etc.
^^^ wow...you actually saw your spleen swell?? was it just like a lump under your rib-cage??

it actually swells to the point where it shifts your other organs around and moves south of the ribcage - at least it did for me
i unfortunately was stupid enough to keep diving when i was sick - so it just made it worse. but yes, you could see it when i was laying down 6/1/2010 12:37:43 PM |

My husband was so incredibly sick. Like others have mentioned, he burnt with a fever and didn't leave the bed unless it was to go to the bathroom. 6/1/2010 12:39:19 PM |

my poor bf (SO=boyfriend)...he's 3 weeks in and just before we found out he had mono he helped me move ALL of my heavy furniture...oops we had no idea it could be mono though...just thought it was a cold
^haha, at least you got it out of the way? 6/1/2010 12:45:25 PM |

well it was misdiagnosed (like mono so often is) so I went on 2 weeks thinking it was just appendicitis. Finally they realized it was mono and I spent 2 weeks watching movies and eating whatever I wanted. It wasn't so bad if I remember right; there is no medicine to help it right?

my old roommate claimed a lot of people get it when they're very young, and it just appears like a cold or the flu or some shit, and then they're immune 4ever. idk how true that is. seemed sort of bogus to me. 6/1/2010 12:49:41 PM |

^^ right no meds. just try to keep the fever down and don't rupture your spleen
^ once you have it, you'll always carry it in your system. so you're not immune, you just don't show symptoms. 6/1/2010 12:50:35 PM |

OH YEA, that is right. I was playing in a rec Basketball game with mono (unknown to myself or my parents). If I had not seen a ball and got hit in the stomach in that game I could have ruptured my spleen. It was a few days later I was diagnosed properly. 6/1/2010 12:52:50 PM |

yeah, kind of like chicken pox. you always have it...just show signs once (maybe twice if the first wasn't so severe)
too bad i didn't get mono in college...at least i'd only have to worry about missing class...with work it's a little more difficult. at least i have an excuse to chow on some ice cream
