It's looking like it's gonna cost me almost 150 bucks to get a couple spider cracks (less than the size of a quarter) on my windshield repaired...anyone know of something cheaper? 6/1/2010 3:59:31 PM |

If you have anything above liability only insurance usually the insurance company picks up the tab on the repair. 6/1/2010 4:42:05 PM |

how so
i fully explained to the lady w/progressive that my windshield had some pits so i wanted comprehensive to cover the repair, as well as anything in the future. wanna keep my truck lookin nice
if they have a "pre-existing condition" clause she sure didn't bring it up in the face of the honest truth 6/1/2010 10:29:29 PM |

Tell them you want to change your deductible. It'll only cost you like $11 more every 6 months. 6/2/2010 9:18:12 AM |

this makes no sense...can i go total my car, get full coverage and immediately file a claim to have it replaced? why in the world would they cover something that happened prior to you getting coverage for it?
not that i care if you make a claim and pretend like it happened after you started coverage, but that is, technically, insurance fraud and i'll bet dollars to donuts that's the only way they'll cover it6/2/2010 10:01:48 AM |

There is "free glass coverage" in some other states - but in NC it is covered under your comp. deductable regardless of who your insurance company is. That advertisement bs you hear about a repair being free with most companies is just a national ad that doesn't apply to our state.
technically a company is supposed to inspect a vehicle when ever they put comp and coll on a policy - looks like paerabol got a freebee because someone is bad at their job or just doesn't get paid enough to care. 6/2/2010 1:41:06 PM |

^^yeah its covered under your comprehensive coverage, but the insurance company will pay for it, leaving you to pay nothing. And I'm saying this having had THREE windshield cracks repaired in the last 1 1/2 yrs. 6/2/2010 3:16:23 PM |

is this even remotely accurate? i've added and removed full coverage on at least a dozen cars over the years, most of them done online, and not a single person has ever called or asked at all about the current condition of the vehicle and sure as hell haven't came to look at it

I had glassmasters replace the windshield in my 4runner two weeks ago.
$160
my insurance deductible is $500, having a low deductible is pretty silly considering the difference in premium. 6/2/2010 4:48:49 PM |

I changed my comprehensive glass (and vandalism) coverage from $250 to $0. It cost me an extra $80/year. My collision is still $250. 6/2/2010 4:50:58 PM |

hmm, i might be thinking of my collision and not my comp deductible. i'm not sure how much that is.
either way, i'd probably still go high. I've had to replace exactly one windshield in ~17 years of being a driver, and i'd have spent more than $160 in premiums over that time.. 6/2/2010 4:54:57 PM |

I've had my Integra for 10 years, and never even had a crack in the windshield.
I've had the S2000 for 1 1/2 yrs and have had the windshield replaced TWICE. Thus the switch. 6/2/2010 5:03:30 PM |
