Even if you're not a diver this is an incredible video! World Champion freediver Guillaume Nery "base jumps" into a blue hole at the bottom of the ocean.

That is pretty cool, just for the fact that he can hold his breath for so long.

He's got like a 10lb weight on his belt. After a certain depth you become negatively bouyant anyways and just sink to the bottom.

sweet video indeed.

i'm sure he had scuba guys with extra regulators on hand for the purpose of the video shoot. what i'm wondering is how he managed to keep himself equalized throughout the extreme changes in depth.

They use techniques such as hard and quick intake of air at the end of the inhale to increase lung capacity. It takes years of conditioning to even begin diving like this.

^^ Yea. It's like a controlled hyperventilating. There's also a warmup technique that you do for like 10 minutes which slows your heart way down, then you hyperventilate a little, take a huge breath and dive under. The pro freedivers have stretched out their lungs, abdominal muscles and intercostal muscles over time and have an amazing lung capacity. They also have the mind strength to push their bodies through spasms and tremmors as they get the urge to breathe.

Better be more waterproof than that. According to the info on youtube, the depth of the hole is 202m.

Sending me to a youtube video that has opening credits is an easy way to get me to give up and close the window.

Recent research suggest that prolonged freediving causes irreparable brain damage.

Of course its pretty impressive that he freedives so far down, but then he climbs the wall back out. I saw a rope in some of the shots and figured he'd use that to come up, but nnooooo...

He would have had to of held his breath for at least 20 mins or something for this, that is ridiculous.

hello everyone, thanks again for all your comments...
To clarify: this movie is A FICTION AND AN ARTISTIC PROJECT. I don't claim to have reached the bottom of the hole (202m) without rope and fins, as the world record in no-fins discipline is 95m..
We made this movie to show another approach in? freediving videos.
We wanted to express the strenght of the elements water-earth-air and the sensations of freedom, harmony, exploration"
