we had no bug problems, it was just blooming hot outside because ours was 10am in June. May in the evening should be perfect. The roses will be in bloom by then. Having it there cut our flower budget so much because we were surrounded by roses. You def need to have your reception somewhere else. No alcohol is permitted and I think there might be a time constraint on how long you can have the garden. But for just the service it is wonderful. I LOVED IT!!!

We also rented the place for only $250. We could not beat that anywhere.

the rose garden you have to rent everything you use though, many places will include that stuff so keep that in mind.

we rented our chairs from a company that the Rose Garden people recommended. It was $275 for the chairs. We had 140 people at our wedding. It was not too expensive. Also, no tents are allowed so that is another gamble.

ha! I answered it above. I am pretty sure it can accommodate 200.

SO the cost now is 270 for three hours and $30 for each additional hour.

You have to get a permit to have an event there but that is not too difficult.

Does the Rose Garden still have sign-up day in January? Guess not.

If you can find someone with the same date, you can share chair rentals and whatnot. Some people getting married after us at the Rose Garden wanted to share, but their wedding was ginormous compared to ours. We didn't want to split costs for a bunch of chairs that would be sitting empty.

Even then, it was cheaper than most anywhere else.

i LOVE the rose garden idea. there are also a bunch of cool historic houses around raleigh that make great wedding venues, too.

and one of my friends did barclay villa (http://barclayvilla.com/) in angier (~40mins away). it was really neat - outside in the gardens and reception was inside but its kinda dark or something - seems better for a winter wedding.

We were set on a wedding not in Raleigh, but if we had done it here I would've looked more in to The Rialto.

There's always the State Club if you plan on a more formal wedding. I've seen some weddings done there recently that were really nice.

For me I don't want a formal wedding. So we're having it on the beach. $300 rental for ceremony and reception location. Includes tables and chairs I don't think it gets much cheaper than that for a venue.

If we had done it in Raleigh I probably would have looked more into West Point on the Eno. Very pretty and I think it's like $50 to reserve the space.

For God's sake do it indoors. Every fucking wedding I've ever been to was an outdoor wedding, and when I think about all of them my first memory is always, "HOLY SHIT IT WAS HOT OUT." I'm not the only one, either. I've talked to the bride and groom about theirs, and it took about thirty seconds for them to say, "It was really, really goddamn hot" and about ten more seconds to say "Also it sucked when that bee attacked me during the vows."

Notice that in this very thread, a couple who got married outside have mentioned the heat.

You're going to be in a black suit with several layers, as will (most likely) be your groomsmen and many of the male guests. You are going to be on your feet moving around all day, as will be the bride. You will roast in your own juices.

I had to help one of the couples carry stuff back from the wedding to their house. I joked that I should probably hurry up and leave so they could get to their wedding-night activities, and the bride just said, "I'm exhausted and covered in sweat. Don't worry, there will be no romance tonight."

Do you want to have sex on your wedding night? Go the fuck inside.

Now of course this all makes me sound like kind of a prick, so let me clarify that the weddings did have many nice things about them and in general I enjoyed them. However they would have had all of those nice things in an enclosed, air-conditioned room as well.

Hey, it's North Carolina. There's no judging how the weather will be regardless of the season. You could say, "Well, April is early in the year, way before summer," and if you'd gotten married in April this year, you would have roasted your tits off same as if it were July.

Plus IT RAINS HERE. On average 120 days out of the year. Meanwhile it's clear (not cloudy) 126 days out of the year. Essentially you've got even odds on it being the beautiful event your bride has always dreamed of or having the entire thing getting rained out while you sit under a tent thinking about all the things you can't get refunds on.

Look man, I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm just trying to warn you. I went to a wedding the first weekend of May this year. It started in the late afternoon and went through the evening, and it was the most miserably hot of the weddings I've been to throughout. I love the couple to death, the food was delicious, all that. But nobody wants to dance when it's a hundred goddamn degrees. It wasn't the most energetic reception I've ever seen.

And as I understand it a "rain plan" is the backup plan, right? Plan B? That's romantic. "We had the loveliest backup wedding you've ever seen."
