Ok, so.... I'm getting married soon, and of course we're picking out songs etc. And I have to pick a song for my mother/son dance with my stepmother.

Except my stepmother is a shallow plastic individual whom I don't exactly care for.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Congrats.

How aware is she of what you think of her? Because given the "shallow plastic individual" part, I really want to suggest playing the Sex and the City theme. Just for shits.

instead of a mother/son dance with your stepmother, why not just skip her and have a mother/son dance with your MOTHER?

are mother son dances common?

i feel like i don't see them at all weddings.

what about frank sinatra as time goes by or the beatles in my life or something.

something that doesn't specifically mention mom (or that isn't like you raise me up or the wind beneath my wings or something) maybe pick something super short, too.

^^^That complicates things a little.

Just don't dance with the broad. I mean, YOURE the one getting married: not her. And if she throws a fit, just explain "And this behavior is why I don't want this to be a part of the schedule of events. End of story; grow up and get over it"

That, or do the I Like Big Butts And I Cannot Lie song. Or the chicken dance, or something totally awful or humiliating.

hahaha

OR just pick a song and have the dj be like "now we invite the guests to join in as we have the son/stepmother dance" or something

then it detracts from her moment but isn't too obvious

Okay, little common sense here, WHY would he ever pick evil stepmom over mother unless
a) mother is even worse
OR
b) mother is no longer living

I'm just sayin'

Only song comes to mind is KILLING IN THE NAME OF!

Because an awful lot of folks allow themselves to be coerced into doing something they don't want to
Especially when weddings are involved.

I go to lots of weddings, I take photographs. A lot of weddings have both the father/daughter and mother/son dance. Some have just one or the other, for various reasons. Some have neither.

If you don't like the woman, why would you want to have the dance with her. It's your and your bride's day. Fuck what everyone else wants. If you're just doing it to keep things civil, I can see that. But there should be some tactful way to get out of it. It's not required. Especially if it's your stepmother.

I agree with several other posters in here- just don't dance with her! I don't particularly know or get along with my father, so I am not dancing with him at my wedding. If she gets huffy about it, tell her to f* off, it's not her wedding.

I just got married last month. My wife and I had our first dance, and then she had a father/daughter dance with her dad. My mom is still alive and she attended, and my parents are still married (no stepmother).

We decided not to do a mother/son dance because the first two dances take up enough time that we didn't want to waste more time on another dance that everyone has to watch. We're glad that we did that because it gave us more time to enjoy the band that we hired.

I think people would understand if you didn't dance with your stepmom.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then don't... It's not something you have to do.

Hell, I don't know if I'm even going to do a father/daughter dance.

if you really don't care for her i say there is no need to do a stepmother/son dance...

now, if it is something that's important to your dad then go on with it but make it something short and sweet. also, you could have the dj/band announce to everyone to get up and dance in the middle of the dance/song and that way your dad could interject and you can get back to your new wife

My husband and his mom (as well as a few other family members) joined in during the last half of the Daddy/Daughter dance, which was "Butterfly Kisses".

I think the Daddy/Daughter dance is much more popular and is more common to have. If you don't want a dance with your step-mother, it's your wedding and you can say 'No'. That's one thing I had a hard time doing when I was planning my wedding. I felt like there were all these traditions that had to be done, but some of them I wasn't too keen on. People kept saying, "It's your wedding, do what you want!" I wish I had listened to them for some things.

So I say to you this: DO WHAT YOU WANT! It's your wedding!

puddle of mudd - she hates me -

Quote :
""She Hates Me"

Met a girl, thought she was grand
fell in love, found out first hand
went well for a week or two
then it all came unglued

In a trap, trip I can't grip
never thought I'd be the one who'd slip
then I started to realize
I was living one big lie

She fucking hates me
trust
she fucking hates me
la la la love
I tried too hard
and she tore my feelings like I had none
and ripped them away

She was queen for about an hour
after that shit got sour
she took all I ever had
no sign of guilt
no feeling of bad, no

In a trap, trip I can't grip
never thought I'd be the one who'd slip
then I started to realize
I was living one big lie

[Chorus]

that's my story, as you see
learned my lesson and so did she
now it's over and I'm glad
'cause I'm a fool for all I've said

[Chorus]

la la la la la la la la la love
Trust
la la la la la la la la la love
Trust
and she tore my feelings like I had none
she fucking hates me

i like the non super sappy father/daughter songs. i would NEVER fucking do "butterfly kisses" and i might vomit if i ever hear that at a wedding (SORRY THUMPER, you know i <3 you boo ) just as i would if i heard that josh groban song. or whatever that other one is that people play.

i don't know what i would choose but it would NOT be one of those sappy songs. i'd rather die. i'd probably go with a song my dad and i both like. probably motown or like something from the 60s. maybe like be my baby by the ronettes or as time goes by by frank sinatra or something. but you gotta pick something that fits you i guess so if the sap fits you, then go go go with the sap cause its your day
