lol wrong thread?

^^
Sodas are out.
Brand names are out.
Restaurants are out.
Snacks and candy are out.
note: I am not counting booze.
Booze isn't food unless added to it.

It might just be possible.
$0.71 * 365 = $259.15

beans: $0.79/lb
rice: $0.29/lb
cayenne: $4.99/lb?
salt: $0.49/lb?

2 parts rice to 1 part beans, so:

185 lbs beans = $146.15
370 lbs rice = $107.30
1 lb cayenne = $4.99
1 lb salt = $0.49

1095 meals -- comes to approx 2.7 oz beans and 5.4 oz rice per meal.
A half-pound (uncooked) of beans and rice, 3 times a day.
Plus all the beer and wine you want.

you could live off 12 whole eggs/day for a pretty long time, I'm sure in bulk they're way less than $.71/dozen...18 whole eggs/day is feasible, especially in different parts of the country, I bought eggs in Michigan last summer @ $.39/dozen via super wal-mart

well you'd die of high cholesteral with all those eggs, and you'd need some sort of fruit or you'd get scurrvy. that how you spell it? might still be doable.

you can avoid scurvy if you eat cabbage which has vitamin C and is really cheap

I say this as a fan of cabbage and former sufferer of scurvy

good call on the cabbage

how do eggs not have a high amount of cholesterol? i would think 12-18 eggs a day would not be that healthy. you could get ripped though.

^3 just correct his mistake already

ok, so yes, while eggs are high in cholesterol, your dietary cholesterol != serum cholesterol, your serum cholesterol levels(the cholesterol you should are worried about) are controlled via your dietary fats

mono and poly raise good cholesterol
saturated and trans raise bad cholesterol

a whole egg will have saturated fats, so there is a correlation between whole eggs and increasing serum cholesterol, but the dietary cholesterol of the egg is not to blame.

You really would just need a replacement for some fiber and important micronutrient. Bananas are dirt cheap, high in fiber and potassium and loaded with some more micronutrients. This could be possible.

i have no doubt whatsoever that I could live off $0.71/day of food.

i am thrifty as hell, i have a garden, i buy in bulk and I generally only eat 2 small meals a day (or just one moderate-sized meal)

According to the scenario "Can you eat 71¢/day worth of food", you'd have to take note of the market price of the home-grown vegetables. You wouldn't be allowed to eat more than 71¢ worth of food in a day, regardless of whether you bought it, or say, got it at a pot-luck, with free coupons, picked it from the garden, etc.

If the scenario was "Can you spend no more than 71¢/day on food", then gardening, dumpster diving, etc. would be okay. I could definitely spend no more than 71¢/day on food under those circumstances....

No, and I didn't need to say "only". If you spent $10 one day, you didn't spend 71¢, did you?
(Because 10.00 isn't equal to 0.71 -- Do you see how that works?)

I said, "Can you eat 71¢ [per] day worth of food."
I didn't say, "Can you eat [at least] 71¢ worth of food in a day."
Your interpretation is flat out wrong, and you know it. (keep trolling though -- I want this to reach page 2.)

you do not need to say at least

you do, however, need to say only

try it this way:
"Can you bench press 71 lbs?"
"Yes, in fact I can bench press 100lbs."

has this thread descended into a semantics discussion

you guys realize that "only", "at least", and "at most" readings are typically determined by context, right? clearly it's easy to eat 71c/day worth of food ... hmm... I WONDER WHAT THE OP MEANT

You clearly aren't saying it the way I did.
It isn't 71¢ -- it's 71¢ per day.
As in -- the total amount for the entire day is 71¢. No more. No less.

you are so wrong.

Meat? I don't eat much, and it's mostly organic or local. ...used to eat even less.
Online shopping? Only as a last resort.
Really though, it's pretty fucking stupid to think that carbon footprints aren't important considerations.
(Now, I could stereotype you as the idiot meat-head frat loser you probably are, but I won't do that. Oh, wait... )
