The price of beef jerky is stupidly high for some reason.

I mean I know it's a lot of protein or whatever... but eight dollars for a regular bag? Holy shit.

if you have a cooler which i guess you might cause of the hard boiled eggs, some cheese snacks (cheese cubes, cheese sticks, string cheese)

pretzels

GO TO THE FRESH MARKET to their snack scoop things. they have soooo many good things. veggie chips, chili lemon crisps, nuts of all kind. its amazing.

homemade jerky
nuts
chips
granola bars
cheese sticks
crackers
sesame sticks
yogurt smoothies - I like the danactive ones
I think I tend to pack differently though: I pack with an eye towards not just snacks, but meals, for the entire trip. Thus, our cooler has meat, cheese, and mustard/etc.

I think you should ask Z. He likes to eat when he drives.
I like to drive, and then go OH SHIT NO WONDER IM SLEEPY, because I ate breakfast, hit the road, and suddenly, it's getting dark and all I've had all day is water

Biggest advice: keep the drink cooler EASILY accessible. Keep baby wipes up front for messy snacks. NO CHOCOLATE. AT ALL. Even if you think you'll eat it before heat becomes an issue

Will yall have maya with?

yea we usually also have a sandwich cooler

potato rolls
pepperoni
deli chicken or turkey or ham or something
deli cheese (i like muenster)
mustard if you feel so inclined (or mayo )

and yummy sandwiches are the result - but since its potato rolls it can be a meal (probably need 2) or a snack (if you just have 1)

plus pepperoni is yummy for munching by itself.

Have you seen the whole grain cracker multi-pack at Sam's Club? It's like 30 packs of peanut butter, cheddar, and sharp cheddar on whole grain crackers. Yes, I did just say cheddar and sharp cheddar. Just when you think it can't get better it does; and sharper too! I ain't never seen a pack of crackers where peanut butter was the shittiest one until now. This is like the all-star team of crackers.

...road trip? No ma'am.
Throw some cheese sticks and crackers in the car, eat breakfast, hit the road. You all will be fine

[Edited on June 9, 2010 at 11:43 PM. Reason : Road trip is a case where the driving is almost the POINT of the trip.]

^^ I <3 those, but I'm too cheap to buy them at the grocery store when my homeboy Sam hooks me up with such a deal on the multi-pack.

The Grilled Cheese crackers are the business too. My homeboy works at Food Lion and I let him crash at my place in exchange for them & Mountain Dew 12 packs.

^^Then you're doing it wrong.

I highly doubt your car can go ten hours without fuel. (I get 40+mpg on the road, and still only make it 7-8hrs before the car needs gas)
You eat when the car eats, and piss when you stop to eat. If you've got to stop for one thing, might as well make it a multi-purpose stop

its healthy to urinate every hour or two if you are keeping yourself hydrated. it takes at most 3 minutes to pee at the rest area... if i lose 20 minutes, so be it.

my favorite snacks for making a 20 hour trek are energy drinks, diet coke and dexadrines

meh, the way I see it: you're gonna have to pee at some point.

Might as well do so when you're already stopped for something else.

Then again, I can't pee into a bottle while driving

Even if its a short (lol 5 hours is short) road trip, the snacks can be used during the trip too... going for a weekend? A full week?

Good trip snacks (driving or living out of a hotel )
- goldfish
- beef jerky
- plenty of H2O
- flavor packets (lemonade, etc) for H2O
- pretzels/chips/crackers
- granola bars
- sugary stuff (sour patch, skittles, starburst, gobstoppers, etc)
- caffeinated pop/drinks (incase driving late )

If you want to deal with more perishables (eat quickly, keep a cooler, etc)
- low-mess fruit (apples, grapes, bananas, etc)
- cheese/meat for sandwiches
- bread
- chocolate

depends on whether or not im the one driving

but since i usually am,
any kinda snack that isnt sticky and is easy to eat with one hand will do

honey roasted peanuts and sour patch kids come to mind.

but i'm not gonna try to eat a full meal or anything on the road, if im that hungry i'll just stop at a proper eating establishment
