QFTFT

I hate baked beans, and when I tried their BBQ beans, it was awesome. Granted they use like three different beans of a good quality, so that probably helps.

Love the pit master, hate the food concept. If he wants to open a cheap BBQ shack elsewhere I will support it though.

a lot of their shit comes out of a can. the only things really made there are the bbq and a few select items. you can actually get the exact same bbq at raleigh times since it is made by the pit.

The place leaves me entirely underwhelmed.

He had one in Wilson. He ran out of money (tax issues I think).

The Pit monster blows, the brunswick stew tastes like it's made with KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. I'd sooner eat a fresh turd!

They serve green bean casserole with crunchy green beans. What more do you need to know in order to hate them?

Pro tip: if you order the nachos with the barbecue on the side, you get much more meat.

mmmmmm bbq pork nachos

(w/ pork on the side apparently).

i can never decide between these and the glorious cheesefries though. they're both so good.

they only hate it because so many people love it. it's a natural knee-jerk reaction.

The Pit is the only BBQ place I've ever been where you can spend $14 on dinner and leave hungry.

The Pit is for out-of-towners

sometimes the sticky tables or homeless waitresses at Coopers scare them

prob out of staters

because i don't think most people in NC are afraid of sticky tables at a bbq joint

well NC natives that is

actually when deciding to eat at a bbq places i have never sampled

i pick based on things LIKE stickiness of table, dirtiness, how many flies i see flying around, how many women call me "baby" and try to shove corn bread down my throat, etc

i'd be wary of some place that didn't have sticky tables or flies.

but yes, out of towners are probably scurred by these things. which sucks for them. cause they miss good bbq.

I remember in middle school my family was driving back from the beach. We stopped at a traffic light and there was a BBQ shack that for some reason had its sanitation grade posted in it's window. My mom goes something like, "That place has a C. How can it even be open?"

and I reply, "That just means the BBQ is good right?"

My dad laughed but my mom just went lol.

one of my fav places to eat burgers/fries/bbq was this place called simp's (simpsons) in roper (or around roper i dunno if it was technically IN roper) on the way to the OBX (back in the day before the hwy went all the way there).

i don't think it exists anymore

but it was really yummy and REALLY broken down looking - like i don't even think for the last few years it operated it had a sign. it definitely did NOT look like a place you'd stop and eat. but we always did.

I'm thinking about going here for dinner tonight because my parents have never been. I was wasn't that impressed the one time that I went about a year ago. I gave it a meh rating, not great not horrible. From the looks of this thread it looks like it's still meh.

So I need some ammo on reason why not to go there and other options to convince the parentals to go to. Who ya got?

If they're ingrained in the Southern tradition of BBQ, just say that it doesn't do it justice--say that it's overpriced for what is ultimately a poor derivative on the food concept.

Then go to any other good BBQ joint.

I love The Pit... Can't understand the haters ITT. I bet if The Pit was some dumpy shack beside a strip mall, the same idiots would be raving about how awesome it is.
