Watch a full game without drinking. Try watching your organized jogging sober. It can't be done.
The only people who follow soccer are euro trash and euro trash wannabes. It an inferior sport that makes golf look like UFC. I could care less if Mexico got a 1 - 1 tie.

I mean I know this is a troll thread...but just saying.

nascar is fucking boring aside from that one crash that takes up a whole 5 seconds of the 3 hour race, which is why i don't watch it. poker? used to watch it when i was younger to learn how to play better. it's also pretty boring. bowling? lolol boring. pool? also boring.
are they more boring than soccer? maybe. are they less boring than soccer? who knows. does their boringness make soccer any less boring? nope6/12/2010 5:39:36 PM |

The difference with those sports is SOMETHING FUCKING HAPPENS. I can get sucked into a game for a few minutes, but eventually I realize that nothing fucking happened in the 20+ minutes I just spent staring at the TV.
NASCAR - Don't watch, but there are wrecks and there is always a winner
Poker - Used to watch out of boredom, but you watch each hand and there is always a winner
Bowling - meh
Pool - Same as poker
Soccer, you watch two teams kick the ball up and down the field, and it gets in some exciting spots where they almost score, but don't (ie no climax), and it starts from scratch again. 6/12/2010 5:49:53 PM |

well isn't that how low scoring hockey games are?
baseball?
i mean you can watch 10 innings of baseball and neither team has scored a run. that is a long ass time to sit through foul balls, balls, strikes and MAYBE one or two good outs, but probably not.
GOLF?
ok we'll hit the ball, then we walk, then we hit the ball, then we walk, then we hit the ball OMG LOOK IT IS NEAR THE HOLE EVERYONE YELL, awwwwww it rolled down the hill into the bunker.

unless it gets rained out, you know for a fact that one team will win a baseball game
and one player will win a golf tournament
and one driver will win a nascar race
there are no ties] 6/12/2010 6:05:56 PM |

meh it is all personal preference. I love sports, but the NBA bores me (outside of the playoffs which I watch some), golf bores me to watch, and baseball bores me to watch if I am not in person. But I get excited to watch as many world cup games as I can even if i don't care about either team that much. Can't really explain it besides the fact that the games are just really exciting to me as someone who grew up watching the game.
I can understand why some people don't enjoy watching for sure though and I'm not saying any sport I mentioned is better than the other. Just that everyone enjoys different things.
And I don't really see how there being a winner is a strong enough single criteria to say one sport is better than another. Outside of group play in the world cup there IS always a winner. Ties are there only in group play.

i just think watching any sporting event is an investment of your time...i want to eventually have the satisfaction of seeing a definitive conclusion where one team/player defeats another one 6/12/2010 6:08:01 PM |
khcadwal All American 35165 Posts user info edit post |
so ties make it boring?
i'm so confused
everyone keeps changing their minds about whats boring. first its the low scores. then its the jogging (cause outfielders in baseball really do a lot of moving around). then its boring cause there are ties.
good grief, people!
^ well its a tournament so eventually there will be a winner. that is why it is fun.

the satisfaction in group play is getting out of your group however you can. If that means getting a tie or two along the way, then so be it. After you get out of group play and you are down to the final 16 it is an entirely different ball game when you can't play a better team for the tie.
Once again, I can see how some people don't enjoy that but I guess for me it just comes from being around the game for so long. I understand the tactical side of ties in group play and it doesn't really bother me.

CalledToArms All American 22025 Posts user info edit post |
^^ exactly. Ties are different depending on your team's perspective. That is what makes today's result "satisfying" for American fans. We played a better team and still earned a point out of the match. It is a positive result for America and a bit of a disappointment for England.
