Is google broken for anyone else? The left panel menu they stole from bing isn't working. "web" and "images" links are broken and hidden by the google logo in all my browsers. I swear they seem to be hiring dumber people every day. And what the hell was up with those fucking wallpaper images and white text that you couldn't turn off? Google is dangerously close to being removed as my homepage for the first time in 10 years.

Edit, it's back working again now. I tried the same query in 4 different browsers and got the same error. Evidently one of their script kiddies screwed up. You'd think they'd test that shit before it goes live. It was practically unusable.

this is a pretty angry thread considering how easy it is to switch to another search engine, even if it's just for a single search

So, is there anything that you don't hate? So much negativity in such a puny thread.

I have very little doubt that every single person that works for Google is considerably more intelligent than smc.

Mark my words, if they screw up the search engine, everything else will crumble.

i'm pretty sure (read: almost certain) your assumptions are wrong and this was caused by something on your end.

of course, technically speaking, you are beta testing for google basically every time you do a search... but that's for modifications to search algorithms.

do people still use a single 'home page' anymore?

I have a series of tabs that open all of the web based tools I use daily whenever I open firefox... I figured most people do something similar these days.

Hell, I never use google through it's main page anymore, when I want to search for something, I use the google search bar built into firefox, safari, etc. It's kind of pointless to navigate to google, and then search, when it can be done in one step, although I still see people doing this all the time, even though it's a less efficient workflow.

i use google as my homepage. 85% of the time i open the internets it's to look something up. all i have all their extra shit they've changed lately disabled. i use it b/c it loads fast and there's not a bunch of clutter. it won't load fast if i'm opening lots of sites.

i really just don't need 5-10 different website every time i open a web browser. to each is own, though i just don't see it.

Okay then. What could cause the same error in IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari?

Again, the Google logo was in the wrong place on the left sidebar, blocking all the search engine choices. I even cleared all the respective caches and the problem remained. I tried again in 5 minutes and all was well again. Seems to me that they screwed up.

You probably caught some sort of brief maintenance period and you got gibberish back. The companies assume that the short downtime will confuse a few users, but then be functioning a few minutes later. Intelligent users will just try again in short order. No system is flawless. (Of couse, this is all speculation).
