here's what i find from my childhood friend from middle school/high school:

first, from 2 days ago:

yeah, this is his real status from teh past few days. it's not some one-off post, the guy has like 1400 friends. most of these are probably from mafia wars, but he's friends with like everyone in my old town.

just seems like dudes who are in their 30's with kids posting this stuff . i dont know. seems like it's opening him up for possibly more trouble than hes already (apparently) in.

i've gotten old and conservative, i guess. people from my chiildhood come back in my life after 20 years, and it amazes me. it's like they didnt go anywhere and are still stuck in the same old shit we were doing as kids.

i guess this is my own personal trip.

well, i guess there is some backstory, a couple weeks ago he posted something about how this guy ratted him out and he "may be going away again" for a while.

maybe i'm just following this dude like one follows the commotion at a massive car pileup on the freeway. he was my next-door neighbor and best friend for several years.

you think? i was beginning to wonder about that myself...

i haven't posted the 30-something year old dudes who are still playing their crappy original 80's metal in run-down rural biker bars. or the IHOP waitresses who are their fans. i guess I should be glad they're posting on FB at all. I've counted about 10 people i used to run with who have died from ODs, suicide, or bizarre accidents.

i guess there's a reason i haven't been back to that town in 20 years. i should reconsider what it is i hope to get out of Facebook.

and this thread has taken a hard turn, jumped the ditch, and is now officially lost in the weeds.

damn, if that ain't the truth. i guess that's why its so acute for me. haven't seen these people in ~20 years, I just figured they moved on with their life in a similar manner.

the ones i've reconnected w/ on FB are just losers. but the ones i havent connected with are even worse:

one guy i lived with for a while, knew his family well, got shot and killed in a drug deal gone bad. I used to date his wife before they got married. I dated his sister, too. i remember our last days together he was always trying to steal shit to buy some dope.

another guy i ran with (first boy scouts and little league baseball team, then later partying) i find out he's in prison for some child porn thing i had no idea, until i see his face staring out from the state sex offender database. we were all a bunch of long haired pot-smoking zeppelin/metal fans at the time. now he's sporting the neo-nazi prison skinhead look.

then just an inordinate amount of suicides and ODs.

these people were my friends for years. now i dont even know them. having a family and a professional career, im wondering if it's wise to even have them attached to my FB account. one gal, she just posted on her wall that she's in financial trouble and would everyone mail her a dollar. i mean, WTF? who does this?
