sorry for the short notice but just found out my friend from DC is driving in today and wants to meet up for dinner and check out downtown raleigh

any suggestions for a good meal, good vibe, but not over $10 a dish? I'm looking for somewhere around Fayetteville Street area not Glenwood South

these are some that I know of, and I am leaning towards Big Easy, Remedy Diner, Tir Na Nog, or La Volta. I am def not going to overpriced BBQ at The Pit.

The Pit - BBQ
Big Easy - Cajun
Zydeco - Cajun
Tir Na Nog - Irish
Oxford - British
Caffe Luna - cafe
Busy Bee - cafe
Remedy Diner - Vegan
Buku - Fusian
Dos Taquitos - Mexican
La Volta - Italian
Jibarra - Mexican
Sitti - Lebanese
Sono - Japanese
Woodys - Tavern
Angelos - Italian
Raleigh Times - bar/cafe

Skip the big easy, or check it out beforehand to see if you can stomach it: It's gone WAAAY downhill.

My sister chose it for her graduation dinner the last weekend in May; when you walk in, the place just fucking REEKS of filth (specifically, old grease and filthy mopwater). I buried my face in my boobs til dinner came (which was deplorable and disgusting and I sent it back after two bites - one from the edge, and another in the middle.) because I had perfume on

How is The Pit overpriced bbq? You can get the pulled pork platter with two sides (and a good helping of bbq) for $11.99. That's not much of a difference over $10.

Anyway, that was gonna be my recommendation.

The Pit sucks. That is all you need to know about that.

Of your choices, I'd roll with Busy Bee, Tir Na Nog, or Dos Taquitos depending on what you're into.

i've always loved the big easy the 3 times i've been there.....the best cajun i've had in town and the most recent trip was a couple of weeks back....well the stuff i've had there before was oyster salad, jambalaya, and lump crabmeat pasta

for bbq, i'd rather have cheaper and better bbq at Coopers of Holy Smokes

$10/plate is pretty low, so i'm going to ignore that.

duck and dumpling. delicious chinese/thai food, not too expensive (less than $20/plate), great restaurant, right in moore square.

I'm a big fan of Sitti. Also I'd like to try Jibarra, which seemed like a pretty cool place the one time I've been there for a drink. However that might fail the $10/dish test, but don't be chintzy now. You'eve got a friend coming in, take them somewhere good.

not on fayetteville st, but porters on hillsborough updated their menu to have north carolina favorites and only NC beers on tap. The place has a very nice atmosphere inside. I got shrimp nachos and my gf got shrimp and grits and both were excellent. Each entree was only 7.99 too.

^^ Do you want nice/trendy or cheap? choose one.

Maybe take your friend to roast grill if you want to be cheap.

$10/plate for a friend that's coming into town and wants to check out downtown raleigh? Really?

$10 a plate is Zaxby's money

Most of the places I would suggest have already been suggested (Sono, Dos Taquitos, Jibarra) but all are well over $10 a plate, especially Jibarra

take them to harris teeter, you can get ramen for yourself and some oats for your friend's horse

seriously though remedy is a good bet, not quite sure i'd call it "vegan" as much as "vegan friendly," my favorite sandwich there includes turkeyflesh

I won't ever eat at Big Easy again. Got some overpriced shrimp pasta that was served with tail-on, chewy, overcooked shrimp. Half of them were only partially de-shelled. I'd rather not have to get my fingers all up in my pasta to eat it if I can help it.

And it quite often smells like vomit

The Pit is good. Raleigh Times has pretty good burgers too.

The cheapest steak at The Oxford is $16.50. You need to kick that $10/entree' bit to the curb, especially at The Oxford..

you are being too picky to be able to find a place. ive had 2 steaks at oxford before and wasnt impressed. mint is too expensive, even for me. what is now in the place of fins? im sure they will have steak there

you need to expand your boundries to glenwood south, they have a lot more selection. you can always take the R-Line downtown after you eat.

Caffe Luna - cafe Italian

one of my favorites, but idk if they have much for less than $10. More like $15 range. But I'm pretty sure they have steak.

I know it's been mentioned, but $10 isn't very realistic imo. Especially if she's talking about steak now.

LOL.....I don't have anything against GW South.....it's just that the GW South area doesn't give her the real downtown proper feel......and I don't want to spend time to wait for R-Line...we want to walk around Fayetteville area after we eat
