We were stretching out to play some Ultimate today and one of the guys noticed a hawk in the woods sitting on the ground. We walked up to it and it jumped out onto the field. It had something on its foot and it wasn't flying.

We walked up to it:

Closer:

Closer:

I got 4 feet from it and saw it had some fishing line wrapped around some twigs and stuff on its leg:

So we decided to help it out.

Guy #1 stood in front of it and distracted it, I stood close to its leg with my knife, and guy #2 came up behind it with his athletic shorts. Guy #2 threw the shorts over it and the hawk laid down, I cut the line and pulled the twig away, and we took the shorts of the bird. It was very docile with the shorts laying on it. It didn't flap its wings or try to claw me. It laid there for a few seconds in a daze:

The culprit:

After we cut it loose, we left it alone and walked away. It kinda of sat on the field for a few minutes and then hopped into the woods again. We stated playing our game and about a half hour later we saw it fly away and it screeched as it flew over us and over the tree line. We all thought that was pretty cool.

lol, that second to last picture you can tell that hawk clearly thought he was going to be dinner... that's his stunned expression that he's not dead.

Poor hawk, give him back his shorts. Seriously, that's pretty cool of you to do that. Props.

That is the most kickass thing I've heard all day! You, sir, deserve a beer at the very least. Plus, you play Ultimate so you get even more cool points! If I am ever in Raleigh for any given amount of time I should hit you up to go out and toss some if not get a game going.

You took the walking cane from a crippled bird? How low will people go these days?!

In all seriousness though, awesome work. I bet it felt good.

awesome

man, I love to hear about people doing truly good natured things, just for the sake of helping others.

There's a very good chance that this hawk followed you home, and is going to be your gaurdian for the rest of your life. You're going to be like The Beastmaster

but you won't have to wear a ~ outfit. Unless you want to, of course.

+1 on both, but the hawk gets an additional +1 simply because of the ability of a raptor to seriously fuck you up should it get the notion.

hmmm, this inspires a thread.

Yea. Josh, Mike, Andrew, Blake, Dan, Chris, some guy named Jeff, some guy named Nathan, and me. We only played because Chris was in town and wanted too. Also, I don't have your number.

Also, if you ever need an extra person for ultimate, I've been interested in finding a game for a while. Skwinkle may still be interested too.
