Is the upload speed and consistency better than standard?

And does someone have to come out to 'install' it or does it take effect immediately if you order it online?

its sometimes better but not of any epic proportion. it can be activated while you are on the phone iirc, it is just a setting of your allotted bandwidth

Same as standard RR in my experience. Upload speed might be a little bit better but it's still not very high.

No one comes out but I don't know how long it takes for them to process it if you order online.

I top out at 370kb upload, never higher. 490kb is a little better but I don't know how much better. I wish I could test it out for a few days before I committed to it. And as I said, I am not really concerned with the download, its the upload speed that I need increased.

^^ He's getting about what we get. Although sometimes our downstream drops to 8-9 Mb/s, which pisses me off.


I had a roommate that worked for Cisco and got some mega discount on Business class, and we were getting 15 down and 3 up, but he moved out

I had it for a while but it wasn't worth the extra cost imo. As mentioned above, its done by re-provisioning the config on your cable modem. When they did it for me it happened while I was on the phone with them.

TWC's upload sucks. I'm glad I'll be able to have U-verse when I move - 24Mbps down, 3Mbps up.

Where I am, the TWC 7Mbps connection has a pathetic 384kbps upload. The 5Mbps down DSL connection for the same money is 768 up. Their 10M down is 896 up. I'm currently with TWC for $29.99 for 6 months but I'll most likely switch to CenturyTel if the prices are nearly the same, definitely so if they are running a special.

Azaka and Novacaine - are the speeds pretty consistent, and what does it bottom out at on average, in other words does you at least get 10 down and 0.49 up?

OK the service that I have is marketed as Road Runner High Speed Online and I get up to 10mb download and my upload has never been above 370kb. their curret turbo service is labeled the following:

And their standard is labeled as the following (which is what I should have):

My standard is more comparable to the the currently advertised turbo... I dunno what to think about this marketing and if I got turbo would I see an improvement in download speeds.

Call 'em up and ask if you can trial turbo for a month and see what they say. If you talk to the right person they're pretty open to anything that could get them more money in the long term. If they do let you trial it, the way they'd do it is by adding it to your account and giving you a credit for the first month. After which point it would continue and bill as extra unless you canceled it.


This is standard road runner here. Its obviously obscured by that speedboost thing they do. In reality I get anywhere from the standard 7mb to 10mb depending on time of day and download source. The speedboost thing is totally legit for relatively small files and I've seen 1.8MB/s when downloading files from local edge caches which is pretty cool.

As an aside, time warner has their own internal ookla speed test sites. In my area its http://speedtest.nyroc.rr.com and it looks like the nc one is http://speedtest.twcnc.com These are real helpful if you're trying to figure out if a speed problem is local to the time warner network (and perhapse your local node) or if its slow to whatever specific place on the internet.

Seems like marketing play to me, for the customers who have been around for while and have not upgraded to Turbo. I thought one that they advertised Turbo as 16 mb down but maybe it was another ISP. The Verizon FiOS looks pretty good but its not offered in my area. Anyone here have experience with it?

No my modem is not hacked. It's about 4 years old. I have an old linksys router that has the new firmware on it and some port forwarding turned on. That's about it.

Speed is consistent for me BUT I think the speed will vary depending on your location. I live out in the country and probably no body uses road runner or if they do, they don't know how to torrent. Thus giving me plenty of room.

Also Wilson now has greenlight that is being very competitive with road runner (notice the speedtest.com location...yeah thats greenlight). They are going hard after TWC customers. Greenlight is now expanding beyond city limits to get new customers. Perhaps TWC is stepping it up to keep customers? Not sure.

Mine is consistently 12 down, .5 up and I live in a pretty densely populated area of Garner. The power boost thing varies between 18 and 22 down but only lasts for a few seconds before it settles out. My modem is old as shit, I've had it for 4 years and it wasn't new when I got it and my router is a piece also, so nothing special hardware-wise here.

I have a Motorla Surfboard SB4200, and I have had this modem since the beginning of 2006. I might just call then and ask them what speeds am I getting now and what speeds would I get if I were to upgrade to Turbo. I hope that they can give me a trial period too.

Call them and they can do it instantly remotely. I pay for ~7 a month with turboboost. I sometimes get as much as 25 MB/s download but never more than .5MB/s upload

^My internet wasn't working when I got home from work today. I called and they were able to fix it by sending a reset signal or whatever. The person on the phone did say they had some outages in Raleigh and had been getting lots of calls today.

Yep. When we had RRTurbo we lost throughput evenings and weekends. But nights and during the day, blazingly fast. Now we have U-Verse, and it doesn't seem to fluctuate at all.

^ Yeah that's what I have determined as well. I just wish it was consistent, or I wish Verzion FiOS was available in my neighborhood. Their 25/25 (down/up) package that comes with cable and a house phone is just 10 more dollars a month if you order it online
