We need a restaurant with really good waffles, eggs, & bacon for breakfast. A good sammich place for lunch. Oh, also places to shop for women's clothing.

Yay getting off the trail a day early!!

Breakfast:
Dan'l Boone Inn Restaurant...they do a family style seating

and another I think it's called Sunrise Grill, but I could be wrong...

def agree w/ Macado's for sandwiches.

For sandwiches Macado's or Pepper's

Women's clothing, drive about 5 miles up to blowing rock, shoppes on the parkway (technically it's called tanger outlet or something now, but I never call it that).

The answer is, of course, Daniel Boone Inn.

What the fuck? Don't suggest Macado's. I checked to verify what I believed and, yes, it's the same chain we have in SWVa/WVa. I've been to 3 locations (Beckley, Roanoke, Salem) and it takes 2 hours to get a sandwich, it's staffed by methheads, and the food is "meh" at best. Not to mention, I ordered a beer once and the guy waiting on us, who was fucking blazed out of his mind, came back 3 times to say "hey, I'm gonna get you that beer!" Finally got it with the meal.

I know it's probably too late for suggestions, but I would have sent you to Boone Bagelry... yum

^ you're crazy. I eat there every time I go to Boone and it's great.

It's a well-known fact where I live that you go to Macado's only for drunk food. It's like Waffle House, only the service is universally terrible. This is common knowledge.

Might as well go to Waffle House, it's faster.

well maybe your location just sucks. the one in Boone has never disappointed. service may be a little slow sometimes, but that what you get on mountain time.

Well, I've been to 3, my gf grew up going to the ones in Bristol and Bluefield, and it's a running joke around here how bad the service is. Mountain time? Oh come on, I live in the mountains and aside from white trash who think Golden Corral is a classy place, everyone talks about how Macado's is drunk food you get at 1am and it doesn't arrive till 2:30.

Cafe Portofino is pretty good, it's right past App on Rivers Street

And I've never had nearly that bad of an experience at macado's although service is slow occasionally.

[Edited on June 20, 2010 at 11:19 AM. Reason : Some things are good there, and the place is pretty run down]

i'm glad to learn that PinkandBlack is a fan of hyperbole and inappropriate interpolation

now i know to ignore his/her opinion on pretty much anything

Damn, there is one place we ate at on the way back from Trail Days that was a Cracker Barrel knock off that was actually pretty decent but I can not remember the name of it. I will have to ask my sister considering she goes to App and all. But yes, Macado's is teh winz!

Blowing rock has some great places, but they are usually a little more expensive.

I love Blowing Rock Grille, it's not too expensive and it's got great food and atmosphere.

It's too late now but we went to melanies for breakfast and that took so long that we skipped lunch. It was pretty good but everything is multigrain and they don't have bacon. We ate at our daily bread thursday and it was just okay.

Went to a couple of stores before we left but most things were closed.

sadly, ODB and Macado's are better sandwich places than anywhere in Raleigh

Canyons in Blowing Rock. It's so good, and they have this chocolate chip brownie dessert thing that will haunt you for the rest of your life.
