Big Lots, they often get some quality pieces that other stores had extra....

Home Goods is another (probably higher end) place for relatively well priced furniture.

Transit Damaged Freight. Don't think they have a web site but they're in Charlotte and Lexington. It involves a certain amount of luck but you can get some good deals. (a friend got a badass leather couch relatively cheap due to a discoloration on the back...which was fine since it was going against a wall.)

It'd be worth traveling to some of the major furniture places like Hickory or High Point. Try to avoid the major places like the Hickory Furniture Mart. These places have major price hikes. I just bought a nice brown leather recliner for my husband's birthday from a small, hole in the wall place in Statesville. It was $300, real leather, and built well.

I second Furniture for Less on Buck Jones (across from South Hills). Not sure if you're in Raleigh though. They have decent stuff and pretty good prices.

What I bought there: Black/dark stained, pub height, real wood dining table (48" x 48") and 4 matching microsuede padded barstools with backs...for $400!
