Our spy photographers have caught the 2011 Nissan GT-R in all its glory. At first glance, the car doesn’t look all that different from the current model, but a closer examination of the front end reveals key changes to the front fascia. We now have a clean view of the new GT-R’s revised face, including the reshaped upper and lower intakes, and additional ribbed detailing on the front bumper. Gray tape covers the top of this part, which leads us to believe that some daytime LED running lights probably reside beneath. There are also grilles on the lower rear flanks.
As for changes underneath the GT-R’s skin, we’ve already reported in a blog that the 2011 model will receive a power increase to about 520 bhp, which is nearly 40 bhp more than the current car’s. It will come from the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 that presently resides under the GT-R’s hood. This model will be followed by the eagerly anticipated M Spec in December (although we haven’t heard yet if this car will be available in the U.S.). The base model is expected to appear later this year, probably around October.
We also got word that Nissan has yet another ace up its sleeve, called the GT-R Cup Car. We reported on the possibility that Nissan was working on such a car earlier, but now we have confirmation that it will indeed make its appearance not long after the introduction of the M Spec. The Cup Car’s specifications will be in the same spirit of previous GT-R “track” versions that carried the N1 designation. Because the new stock GT-R will be producing about 520 bhp, we hear that Nissan won’t be tweaking the engine for the Cup Car. Instead, it will have upgraded brakes, suspension, wheels and a variety of carbon-fiber body panels. If this car makes its way across the Pacific, the price will be in the neighborhood of $120,000 to $150,000.

btw, not a big change, as it is not a new generation. styling 98% same, and allegedly a small increase in power.

I appreciate how they revised the launch control software for the 2011 models since people were breaking their drivetrains when using it. And strangely odd that Nissan voids the warranty if you use the launch control at all. 8/25/2010 11:38:13 AM |
MadDriver20 All American 977 Posts user info edit post |
Your info is wrong. you can use launch control. if you turn off VDC and then break something, that will void warranty. The revised launch control doesnt require u to turn VDC off, and launches at a lower rpm. 8/25/2010 1:34:38 PM |

^^ That's what I thought too, but it is official now; it was shown at the recently concluded LA Auto Show.
Vital stats:
530 hp 488 lb-ft 0-60 mph in < 3 sec MSRP $90,000

... So what's the news in regards to the reliability of these vehicles years from now when the mileage starts to rack up and the warranty runs out?
Also:
Isn't the base MSRP for a 2011 GT-R $99.5k? So they are offering "more car" for nearly $10k less?

I'm wondering whether owning this thing is like owning a Ferrari in terms of getting raped on basic maintenance and repairs. You could get a Z06 and a GT-R in a somewhat similar price bracket but the Z06 seems like it would be way cheaper to own. 11/18/2011 7:21:23 PM |

Yeah, there is nothing that even competes with, much less compares to, a Z06 in terms of bang for the buck. 11/18/2011 7:24:28 PM |
