Goddamn, there's a lot of them lately. Well, two, but considering that up until this past week I'd never seen one in my entire life that seems like a lot.

The one at the Thea Ln. end apparently has unattractive white girls. The one at the Gorman end has someone who my neighbors describe as Mexican but who looked Asian to me. I thought I'd share in case any of you have a preference for one or the other.

If one of the pimps doesn't stop creepily staring at my female friends I am considering retaliating in a very brave, manly, and no doubt effective way, by anonymously calling the police.

Anyone else aware that Kaplan is now apparently Raleigh's red light district?

I'm 25, I graduated, and after a couple of years of underemployment I'm now back at NCSU for graduate school. I live off Kaplan because it's relatively cheap, close to school and other places I like to be, and, until recently, was a pretty decent neighborhood (at least my part).

I've lived in Falcon Ridge for two years (right at Gorman and Kaplan). I haven't noticed any whorehouses or other problems. The stories you hear about crime are overblown.

I will say this though. Whether you like it or not, at that end of Kaplan there is a white/college student side of the street and a mostly black and minority side of the street. I never see any major crime or anything going down, but it does seem to be divided in that way.

I live pretty close to where you do. And you're right, the street does make a pretty clear line between "white young people" and "black people." That said, the whorehouse is on the white side of the street.

It's getting really bad. Earlier this year my girlfriend was carjacked at gunpoint and pistol-whipped in the mouth while sitting in the parking lot and talking on the phone at our apartment about 50 yards from the intersection of Gorman and Sullivan. Well, I'm not real clear on the operations of the one nearest me -- as far as I can tell, the chick walks around Kaplan and Gorman, and the guy hangs out nearby but doesn't seem to do anything except talk to the girl on the phone and grope her.

The one at the other end of the street involves one guy living with two girls, both of whom who routinely fucks around with. Frequently enough a strange car rolls up and a guy exits. Shortly after the strange guy enters, the guy who lives there leaves, drives a short distance down the street, and waits either half an hour or an hour. Then he drives back to the house, goes in, and the strange guy leaves. Also, the guy who lives there drives a different car every month, always with 30 day tags (and sometimes with no tags, but a cardboard display of a license plate).
