just look at how profound their observations/references are

if they never say anything even slightly suggestive of intelligence, then guesstimate them at somewhere below 100, depending on how dumb they seem

if they make observations and bust out little facts about history/literature/etc. as if they're being profound or knowledgeable, but these are actually things which every intelligent person has already figured out/learned, then they're probably around 120

if their observations are actually insightful, and their knowledge is both broad and deep, then you can put them in the >135 range, and estimate their place there

what I really wonder about is where bonafide idiots, who can only gaga and scream, fall on the scale. Can you get as low as a 10, say? I'm almost more interested in the lower end of the spectrum.
