Hi there guys,

Recently I noticed a small hard bump on the underside (palm side) of my middle finger. It has a slight blue tint to it, and causes some discomfort when I press on it.

I did some searching, and it looks like it could be a Venous Malformation, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with these, they seem to be pretty common. Furthermore, treatment can range from surgery to lasers or medicine; anyone have one of these?

The only major health concern is if they rupture, the bleeding can be kind of bad, but this one is small, about half the size of a plastic pin head. Is this something I should have checked out?

Does anyone have any good dermatologist recommendations?

Thanks,

Nick

Holy crap that sounds exactly like what I have, but I never looked to see what it was. It's at the tip of my left middle finger. It started back when I worked at UPS and I had a big almost belt burn from the conveyor belts there when my finger got stuck under a box. It literally did not heal until I stopped working a job that involved using my hands a lot. It is still there and can be tender or painful at times but it looks like you said just a darker area. The big problem was before it healed up when it would bleed it would literally shoot out of my finger like a water pistol and the only thing I could use to get it to stop was putting that liquid bandaid stuff on it. Since it has actually healed up though I havent had any bleeding issues just the tenderness, but it is still there years later.

Yea that sounds like what it is, mine doesn't bleed, it might be deeper. Apparently the darker the color the deeper it is.

Yeah mine is a deep purple color. It is not raised or anything compared to the regular skin. I can tell there is a good few layers of skin before you get to the purple area. Im sure if I stuck it with a pin that would be a bad move. Im just happy it doesnt bleed anymore because it seriously would not stop until the hole was like plugged.

Marginally related

I used to work at UPS, preload, got injured twice
1) unloading an oblong trailer (engine blocks, tires, sheet metal, all the heavy/large crap that doesn't fit in a regular box trailer), had a huge rear axle/diff packed incorrectly fall over, the end of it cracking me in the small of the back and I was done, son, for a couple days.
2) promoted to secondary sort, pulled a busted box of what I thought was lotion off the slide and got it allll over my hands and forearms. Didn't think much of it till it started BURNING LIKE A MUHFUCKA, ran to the bathroom to get it off and neutralized...turns out it was a mild hydrochloric acid solution, basically ate off the first layer of skin.

No venous malformations, though
