Quote : | " LAKE NORMAN, N.C. - A customer at Vinnie's Raw Bar at Lake Norman says he found oil inside the oyster he was eating.
Matthew Robertson says he was eating oysters with dinner at Vinnie's Raw Bar at Lake Norman when he found oil inside the oyster.
"They looked fine, just regular, but then as the soon as they opened, you know, it's just they got on my hands, the black stuff, and it was a kind of on, a little bit on, as you can see, right here. It was just a little bit on the meat." Robertson said. " |

It depends where you go for raw oyster.
Some oyster bars will shuck them in front of you and others will just give you a bucket and a shucker.

I hate the way oil can go through the shell of a crustacean and into the meat without getting on the shell itself.
I concur with Fareako.

^^ Oysters are washed before you steam them. The outsides are cleaned, but inside the shell remains untouched. Oysters are also one of the first organisms to filter toxins out of the water. Why is it so hard to believe that oil ended up in these oysters? 7/12/2010 12:21:25 AM |

i love that he isn't ordering shrimp either.
as most of the shrimp we eat comes from southeast asia, rather than the Gulf of Mexico.
yay people who don't know what they are eating. 7/12/2010 1:10:55 AM |

because the dumb ass didn't realize that the oysters didn't come from the Gulf, they came from Thailand. no oysters or shrimp are coming from the Gulf right now.7/12/2010 9:33:35 AM |

- you're crazy man. Over 40% of gulf coast oyster grounds are still open. With the Atlantic oyster season currently closed, the majority are still coming from the Gulf.7/12/2010 12:47:58 PM |

This implies that either the restaurant or someone in the supply chain thought they could wash oil off oysters and sell them to customers. That would be a great piece of controversy for us to mull over, but the more likely scenario is that he put it there like the finger lady from Wendy's a few years back.7/12/2010 12:55:14 PM |
