Couple of questions:
1). Im thinking of riding the Triangle Transit bus from Glenwood to RTP. Anyone currently commute, used the system, or heard about it? Looking for reviews on timeliness and ease of use.
2). NC State offers a GoPass for students and employees that allows for unlimited riding on the area bus systems for free. Although Ive graduated, my student ID is still valid until 2012. Has anyone signed up for a GoPass? If so what was the process? Do they just look at the ID or do they check enrollment?
Thanks in advance. 7/13/2010 9:54:09 PM |

I used to ride the TTA in to work about 5 years ago from the leesville area. At the time you didn't need a gopass, just a student ID. It's probably the same route that I took, it went down glenwood to the lynn road area before doubling back to leesville. 7/13/2010 10:00:27 PM |

To answer 2) first--you have to go to the transportation office and fill out a form to get a GoPass. If you've already graduated, I unfortunately think you're SOL.
Back to 1)--if it stops near you, go for it. I've ridden the TTA from near my house (South Durham) to NCSU, and other than having to change buses at the transfer center in RTP, it's pretty straightforward. They seem to run reasonably on time and I've never seen an overcrowded bus. I'd ride it more often but it has two inconvenience factors for me--the walk to the stop (about a mile from my house) and the timing. It only runs on this route once per hour (at peak times, less during mid-day) and it's a ~45 minute ride for me, so I have to get on the bus at 7:05 to be at work by 8. Adding walking time, I have to leave my house at 6:45, as opposed to hopping in my car at 7:40. But if the times work better for you, or you have more discipline in terms of getting up early, it's a cost effective and non-stressful solution. 7/13/2010 10:06:58 PM |

^^^ yeah I think I will be riding the same route you did.
^ Thanks for the info on the GoPass. Thats unfortunate but not unexpected. My best option would be the $68 31-day unlimited but that really doesnt save me much money or time....just lets me not have to drive through traffic every morning and evening. If anyone knows of fare deals please share!
Im really interested because the bus stop is maybe 1/4 mile from my house and the transfer center in RTP is about 1/4 mile from my work so I dont have to walk far at all (could possibly take my bike with me). According to the schedule it runs about every 20 minutes but I would need to leave about 30 min earlier to make it on time.

Truth. My only qualm about TTA is I wish they would run a few more buses at peak times.7/13/2010 10:33:12 PM |
