good laugh.

Quote :
"What started out as an investigation into UNC’s Marvin Austin has now ballooned to include South Carolina’s Weslye Saunders, former Florida Gator Maurkice Pouncey and possibly Alabama DL Marcel Dareus for improper conduct/contact between players and professional agents. All of this in the wake of the NCAA’s H-Bomb detonation over LA after it turned out Reggie Bush and his fam were kicking it in a half million dollar crib paid for by agents, among other shady stuff USC star players did and the school ignored. It seems as if the sleeping serpent that known as the NCAA compliance office has arisen and it is angry! Helmet schools with high profile star players that previously swam in the tranquil waters of cozy, nonchalant relationships with agents, heed thy warning: the seas are turbulent, and the beast is out for blood!

What I find strange about all of this new-found NCAA manhood is it seems the governing collegiate athletic body is purposely overstating this to make its wrath felt before it inevitably returns to its natural state of ambivalence. Much like any reaction to a blatant disregard for standards or ethics, the regulating body tends to go above and beyond what is necessary to prove they’re “in control,” possibly (ok, exactly) what is happening now. Targeting agent misconduct is simply striking while the iron is hot; the NCAA COI (that’s Committee on Infractions for the acronym challenged) has its Strawman now from the Bush/USC case, and the committee will pursue it with over-exuberant diligence until it feels its point has been made."

it's a bigger story locally, the other schools are more nationally recognized in football, so if they are involved as well, they are gonna get the press

The only part of the NCAA that seems to be flexing its muscles is the group dedicated to agent and amateur status. It seems like they finally got enough information to start acting against schools and athletes.

How about if UNC players lied to the NCAA about when they traveled to Miami?

Both hurt...it hurts their Defense up front so the run game wont be shut down like it has been...they have a stout D and this will help for sure.

However, I agree...Little is a huge part of that already inept offense.

I think both affect it equally and respectively.

I don't really mind Gold, I like Zarzour, but I'm not a fan of Ovies or Glenn.

That State Fans Nation post really nails Little and all of the UNC appologists. Dez Bryant got suspended the entire year for lying about a relatively innocent meeting with Deon Sanders. Looks like Little and his dad may have just lied about something that isn't even legal by the NCAA rules.

I have no qualms with Ovies but his reaction to some very hard evidence against Little is suspect.

Was Joe Ovies in Days of Thunder? I don't think so.

Hell Julius Hodge became more accomplished after his first twitter than Ovies.

My point is that none of those guys are covering State and the ACC all day, every day. Local sportscasters just have to show UNC highlights and baseball bloopers.

"NC secretary launching inquiry into UNC probe
By: Daily Update Jul 21, 2010 Featured, General
CHAPEL HILL (WTVD) — North Carolina’s Secretary of State is now launching a criminal probe into possible agent misconduct with the UNC football program.
Elaine Marshall is stressing her job is to focus on professional sports agents and not players, coaches or the football program.
“We’ll be investigating the agents,” she said. “We will not be investigating the school.”
Currently, the NCAA is conducting an investigation to try to find out if Tar Heel players accepted gifts from agents.
If the NCAA finds the players did accept hand-outs, the college sports association would likely penalize the players and could sanction the school. But they could not touch the rogue agents….
…..Marshall could also subpoena Tar Heel players, coaches and administrators.
“We can subpoena the records to put together the case and we will do what we need to do in this case,” she said.
However, Marshall continues to stress her target is not UNC. She says right now she is only after the agents her office licenses and regulates.
“We will do a thorough investigation, inquiry of this,” Marshall said. “We have notified parties, institutions, instructed folks about destroying and maintaining records. All of that kind of stuff.“"

Quote :
"On the lawsuit angle, remember that it was because of a lawsuit (and discovery/testimony for it) that the Reggie Bush stuff became public. I wouldn't want to open that up if I were UNC."

^ Only issue I have witht that is that UNC could easily spin that to be the players/program were taken advantage of by these criminal agents.

^ that "angle" of defense would only be REMOTELY believable if USC didn't JUST get their asses handed to them a few months ago.

And if the players somehow claimed they didn't know, then it falls onto the whole system of UNC big time athletics not properly educating and monitoring players, especially their stars on agent dealings. And their "Agent Day" would sufficiently quash that notion, since the whole point of it, is for players, agents and advisors to meet in a legal supervised setting.

pass the popcorn

^These agents are pretty slimy. If they get squeezed hard enough I guarantee that they will spill the goods about the goings on brokeback mountain. The more publicity this story gets the worse it is for Butch. I'm gonna keep dreaming about the death penalty.
