The media seems to grab on to buzz words and beat them to death...

I don't watch the media...it just makes me sick/furious
I just get my really important news from TWW
it's more honest, more interesting, and in the end probably more factual

Not overused, but annoying buzz words. Thank goodness most of these are fairly short lived. Some more recent ones (2 years or so) that come to mind:

vuvuzela
blue-tooth
twitter
tweet
green

Quote :
""experts""

In that same vein" "authorities say..." Doesn't matter what they're taking about. Could be taking a dog for a walk and they'll cite some nameless "authority".

That's how they want us to think.
No matter who or why or what -- just listen, trust, and submit to authority.
Niiiiice, cooomforting authority....

It's more the rhetoric than particular words, which get beat to death, that makes the media insufferable. You are brainwashed if you can stand to watch any 24 hour news channel for more than 30 seconds. It's pretty appalling.

"Impact" or "impacted." I have a theory that this is because many in today's media simply don't know how to properly apply "affect" and "effect."

The responsible parties, however, should be made aware of the following:

impacted

Quote :
"Packed in or wedged in such a manner so as to fill or block an organ or a passage."

http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/impacted

As in being constipated, for example. This is, no doubt, not the meaning those at issue wish to convey.

Breaking News

It used to be Breaking News: Planes hit world trade center. It is now Breaking News: Rain Expected or Breaking News: Man loses flip flop.
