Where is it?I used to go to Schiano's for their calzones but I heard they got sold off a couple years ago so I wonder if it's still good. Also, not a calzone but that pizza place on Harrison Avenue in front of the Embassy Suites has this thing called a spinach pizza wrap (maybe? Forget the actual name...) that is AMAZING. It's close to a calzone and I crave one right now

The pig in a poke at Lilly's is incredible.
7/18/2010 11:36:21 PM
Found it!http://www.theoriginalnypizza.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/menu.main/index.htmAnd they do call them wraps And they've expanded the wrap menu beyond spinach and meatball

Lilys isn't really that good. I mean, it's cool to go there when you're slumming and you want to sit outside, but you don't really go there for the food itself. Just some giant blob of cheese and pizza sauce slapped together by a dirty vegan, straightedge, or insert title here. I only go there when I'm drinking.
7/18/2010 11:40:11 PM
I like the pizza at Lilly's but have never been a fan of the calzones. The sauce to crust ratio is not to my liking.

i used to LOVE pizzamericas calzonesalso ruckus has HUGE ones
7/19/2010 12:34:39 AM
While I recommend Hotpoint for pizza (and I hear sandwiches), I was sadly underwhelmed by the calzone there. I have a thing for stromboli though, I need to go look up the difference.

i have a lilly's story. i like their food BUT one time i was there eating (duh) and you know how they have like the mixed green salads (with all the weird like stem looking things and leaf looking things and different colored lettuce) so i was just stabbing away eating my salad and i went to stab a brownish/reddish piece of greenit had wingsit was a mothit was alivekinda wanted to barf.[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 2:25 AM. 7/19/2010 2:40:43 AM

7/19/2010 2:54:23 AM
Here they just skip the separate entrees and make salad pizza.[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 3:23 AM. Reason : a]

Schiano's makes a fantastic calzone.

Im not usually big on chain restaurants, but Mellow Mushroom probably has the best zone in Ive had in Raleigh (yes better than Lilly's)
7/19/2010 11:09:14 AM
lilly's does have the best salads of anyplace i know in raleighAlso, ive been wanting to try that place in chapel hill that everyone loves[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 11:13 AM. Reason : CH]

I like the calzones at Lilly's. In my experience, calzones at Mellow Mushroom can vary wildly -- the one I had in Winston was great, the one I had in Raleigh wasn't very good. I think that's mainly because the one in Winston didn't use ricotta cheese, while the one in Raleigh did.Meanwhile, the calzones at Moonlight Pizza are pretty mediocre.
7/19/2010 11:12:52 AM
i second everyone who says Lilly's calzone

Never been to Lilly's. Amy I actually missing something. I'm moving in three weeks, and wonder if I should go before I move... just to have had it.
7/19/2010 11:52:28 AM
I always thought that calzones would be the cruelest thing to feed to the population of a besieged city first let them spend 6-8 weeks eating grass soup, pine cones, rats, and shoe-leather, totally maybe 500 calories a dayand then when they finally surrender, give them each an enormous greasy piece of bread stuffed with sausage, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and ricotta cheeseit would probably be kinder just to run them through with your sword]

I said Lilly's earlier, but I'll list the places I'll actually get a calzone/stromboli and enjoy it enough to order it againLilly'sRuckusSaucedhaven't had any other ones in raleigh that I would get again, and that is including that "stromboli's" place or whatever it is on edwards mill and sylvia's. Someone bothered to make a voting list for this, so here is the link- looks like Lilly's tops their list too. there are definitely some places on there I would try out though (notably in the top 5-10):http://www.boorah.com/restaurants/17802/NC/Raleigh/best-calzone.html

It's good to know Schiano's still pumps out a good calzone. I'll have to go there when I'm home and get one.
7/19/2010 7:35:23 PM
yeah, I had never even heard of it before this thread- definitely going to be checking it out in the near futureooo- Google just told me that it is right by the disc golf and golf store- I could make an entire evening of it [Edited on July 19, 2010 at 7:38 PM. Reason : w]

I remember as a kid always being excited when my mom didn't feel like cooking so she'd get pepperoni calzones from Schiano's. She'd order 2 and everyone would get a half
