I've heard Jibarra is good if you're looking for fancy Mexican.
My favorite Mexican though is the tamale truck that used to park outside the subdivision they were building down the street from my parents 7/19/2010 9:36:47 PM |

It definitely isn't gringo a go go. That place is overpriced and mediocre as fuck.
Sure it's better than the shitty neighborhood combo pushing sour mix margarita shitholes, but it ain't worth the price of admission.
Gonza and Dos Taquitos get my vote locally, but authentic taquerias are the best. 8/9/2016 1:21:53 AM |

Fiesta Mexicana for standard chips+salsa and menu. Taqueria El Toro for more authentic tacos etc. 8/9/2016 8:47:37 AM |

Not in Raleigh but related
We go to Fiesta Mexicana almost every Friday. Most of the time to the one in Louisburg and recently to the new one in Youngsville. We have gotten pretty close to the family that runs it and they treat us well. The food is great and the $1.99 pints of XX is killer (2.99 at the one in Youngsville) 8/12/2016 1:47:26 PM |

^there's one in Cary too. My dad, sister, and stepmom eat there every Friday and are also close to the family that runs it. It's pretty good.
La Rancherita on Hillsborough St. is pretty good. It's a slightly modern take on classic dishes.
