Oh, the memories of road trips, high as a kite, telling stories about how this guy would come out and shoot at us, which happened once (but it wasn't with a real gun), and the old wrecked car that everyone said was his daughter who died.

RIP Acid Park, sad to see you leave that place.

the other 3/5 that you didn't understand was probably him saying "GOD DAMNIT"

i have never heard anybody cuss as much as him...except maybe his son...and when they worked together it was very inappropriate to be around as a child...hahah

vinylbandit and I went out there about 4 months ago and the thing I remember most about him was how much he likes Tropicana no pulp orange juice and when I asked what he had done in his life he said the US government stole 5 God Damn years of his life fighting in the war. He was also listening to Rush Limbaugh

Pics don't do it justice.
Plenty of vids on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ja1ASKTnkM&feature=related

It really came alive at night when there was wind though. Everything was coated with reflectors or reflective paints/tapes. You really understood why they called it Acid Park if you saw it at night.

my aunt and uncle bought a sweet tin-roofed swing thing from him. supposedly all made from industrial scrap. the floor is an old wooden conveyor belt.

is the city of Wilson taking over his whirligigs?

I heard they might - anybody ever go to the whirligig festival?

^ The city has taken the largest of them and is installing them in a park in town; said park is scheduled to open this fall.

I visited last year. I met another old man there, not Vollis, who had a cat named frog.
