leave your car running unattended in a parking lot for long periods of time

i just got home from lunch. when i first arrived at the eating establishment, there was a car parked next to me with the engine running, keys in the ignition, doors unlocked, nobody in it. i think to myself ok that's kinda weird but whatev.

20 minutes later i come back out, car is still there, engine running, keys in the ignition, doors unlocked, nobody in it.

I never cut my truck off anymore, it runs all day and night. I figure the only way to combat big oil and global warming is to use up all the oil as fast as possible.

It's also nice that my truck is cold/hot as soon as I get in it, depending on the season.

maybe their battery died recently, or their alternator sucks, and they were trying to keep the car from dying again.

just a thought...

I once left my car running and unlocked for 4 hours while i was shopping at the mall. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't find my keys and why the engine was still hot.....

I think you should go back to the eating establishment and see if the car is still there, and if it is wait until the owner comes out so you can see what they look like and judge them.

unless you own a chop shop, or know a chop shop you could sell to, and also know how to disable lojack, and also know how to entirely remove the VINNs placed around the car, and have an extra set of license plates handy...

I don't know if it's worth your time to steal cars anymore.

Take the keys and registration.

Go to address on registration.

Rob the house while they're trying to remember what they did with their keys.

i left my truck running outside of a bojangles one time. I have an electronic keypad so i never carry my keys but always lock the doors. I came out about 20-30 minutes later and got in without thinking twice about it. I then asked myself why it was still so cold inside the truck and realized i'd left it on with the AC blasting

no

I sometimes let my car run with the keys on while grabbing beer at the gas station, etc.

but only when my dog is in there..because HE BITES PEOPLE.

I have a push button ignition and a key fob...I can leave the car running, lock the doors, go inside and handle BI, then come outside, unlock the car, and leave

^those are actually relatively safe - most can run the engine, but you can't change it into drive without the key in the ignition.

Doors unlocked, however, makes no sense.
