It's a common misconception that dreads are not washed.
In fact, they are washed more than regular hair.
Not washing your hair is nasty, and has absolutely nothing to do with dreading your hair.

if you dont wash your dreds they dont lock as fast

dirt and grime and dead skin interrupt the natural locking of the dred locks

you want to avoid conditioner though when you start off, and some people start their dreds by neglecting them and they kinda start forming individually but you gotta wash em and its good to wash em often

cuz the shit will stink and you cant pimp wit stank locks

Oh, backcombing, using a special cleaner for your scalp when you "wash" your hair
it could last a while if you can't get the root to lock
the goal is also to create a matted strand
My hair is so oily that I could not create any above.

yea it just requires dedication that I cant help but admire in the white cats

cuz yall dont naturally kink like we do, and mine are somewhat slow to lock because I kinda have native american in me (OMG WHO DOESNT) so my hair is not kinky as full on black hair (it was also hard to keep cornrows in too) on some parts of my hair i can just twist up some loose strand and theyll actually start locking, so it would be awesome if i had a full head of hair with that quality

when i sweat even now after 4 years my roots still come a little loose

i cant imagine how hard it is for white folk so i give em much respect

some of the nastiest dreads I have seen are black people with twa's and dread strands. Just because you are black does not mean it will lock automatically and black people deal more with breakage than white people from what I have seen.

thats because its easy to overtwist and that results in thin ass roots

at that point you gotta combine locks to make em strong, which is a normal thang but if you do that shit too much youll wind up with on fat dred with like 25 little dred tips comin out of the end
