Ok. A show involving a family that revolves around the father and the wife with their children occasionally playing roles in some episodes, but the show isn't really about them. Much of the comedy will derive from how the married couple interacts with each other, with much of the situations coming from common situations white married couples find themselves in. After a few seasons, we'll throw in a few outlandish situations to keep the show "fresh" and "new," and as the show stagnates, we'll introduce a new character, maybe a cousin. Maybe a child will go to college and we'll get comedy from his or her coming of age, since children always end up getting into stupid situations. Oh, and of course the husband will have snarky friends that give "helpful" advice that leads to conflicts between his wife and himself, like convincing him to skip out on plans or buy a bad gift or give him wrong information. I'm thinking the wife won't work and the husband will be middle class. We won't really investigate their financial status too much, but he won't be purchasing Bentley's and going on expensive, unrealistic, vacations. Maybe a episode involving a company paid business trip that the husband can work into a vacation would be manageable, but not until season 3 or later. And maybe the husband or wife can have crazy, or obnoxious, parents that can cause conflict and humor in a few episodes.
All in all, I think this is a pretty original idea that will be wildly popular. 7/21/2010 9:21:28 PM |

Two really mainstream families that are neighbors. They all smoke weed. Both sets of the family's kids, who smoke with each other, hide it from the parents. The two sets of parents, who don't smoke with each other, hide it from the kids, and their jobs. Every season, someone finds out about the other's toking.
Lots of modern internet-literate "coming of age" comedy, stoner comedy elements as per That 70's Show, and many serious but lightly played political undertones, both liberal and conservative. Oh, yeah, one family is really liberal, and the other is really conservative. And there's a really hip old lesbian neighbor. She also smokes weed, but openly.

i think my life would make a great sitcom. we'd have to exaggerate some comedic situations and probably down play some of the more sad/serious shit. but i think it would be a hit. 7/21/2010 9:34:55 PM |

A man with no insurance gets in a car accident with another man, so the judge sentences the guy with no insurance to be the other man's butler until he works off the damages. It's pretty broad humor, with catchphrases and such.

I'm going to steal all your ideas for my Advanced Screenwriting workshop.
Clearly my professor would jump at the idea of a sitcom; they have such a long history of employing the best writers for what can only be considered brilliant television masterpieces.

Two middle-30's-something guys, a late 20's guy, and an early 30's woman who could pass for late 20's hang out together and talk about everyday shit while finding themselves in bigger-than-life comedic situations.

Ex stand up comedian, out of shape, maybe fat, is a writer/blue collar guy/full time job having person.
Wife is a MILF, and is ridiculously out of his league.
Kids are side characters. Has family members or co-worker that stop by all the time living close by as comic relief.
I just explained 60% of the sitcoms of the last 25 years. 7/21/2010 11:45:31 PM |

Mockumentary "behind the scenes" style sitcom focusing on the cast a dirty jobs type show that has already run for like 10 seasons and is now struggling for ideas.
For example, one episode is dedicated to fluffers. 7/28/2010 10:53:13 PM |
