I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC Time Warner DVR.
I want to get the video from the DVR to my PC or laptop. I have failed at googling the answer. Most of the answers I find are several years old.
I searched this forum and didnt see any specific answers. I am not sure if my only option is to stream the video to a computer and capture it or if there is anyway to transfer the video directly.
Thanks in advance. 7/25/2010 2:37:01 PM |

You might be able to do it via firewire. You'll have to check on the 8300HDC specifically though. I had a motorola HD DVR that had a working firewire port and used some cobbled together (very shitty) PC apps to get it to transfer video out.
But honestly it's a giant pain in the ass even if you can get it to work, it's slow, its unreliable, and requires all kinds of manual work to get it to happen. You're way better off building or buying a HTPC with a cablecard in it. 7/25/2010 3:27:13 PM |

I had a variation of this box about 2 years ago with Suddenlink cable and my google searches resulted in dead ends. That unit is garbage and if you can still get cable cards from TWC as well as the proper PCIx card that will decrypt all the channels, I think you're much better off with what Noen suggested.
DirecTV has an app that lets you stream DVR content over your home network, but I don't know if anyone's hacked it yet. Hell they were supposed to release basically their own version of an HTPC but it never gained any traction. 7/28/2010 6:53:44 PM |

Seriously, everything but the local news gets uploaded to the internet these days 10 minutes after it airs, in High Def, with the commercials already cut out. People that cap their own stuff just hate having free time.7/28/2010 10:33:26 PM |
