It's the greatest scam in history, in my opinion. You can get water out of the tap for nearly free. It's easy to find anywhere in the US. Yet, bottled water is a multi-billion dollar industry. I have friends who buy cases of the shit, then they bitch about not having any money...

Not to mention bottled water is either just slightly filtered tap water or just regular tap water. Also, unlike tap water, bottled water isn't put under the same scrutiny that we put our tap water under. In fact, any drink isn't screened for arsenic, or any other harmful substance, in order for it to be sold.

So, why do you pay 50-100 times more for the same thing?

In this thread, merbig is correct.
You people that buy bottled water are both foolish and wasteful.

i typically don't carry around a bottle or cup or other water holding device, and often don't want to, so bottles make sense. how does that not make sense to you?

so you're carrying around a bottle, because you dont typically carry a bottle.

i only carry it while i want the water, not before or after. see how clear that is?

thats only true for spring water, water bottled by coke or pepsi is as clean as tap water because thats what it is... filtered tap water.

^ Isn't that what I said in the quote? And again, why not just keep a bottle in the car, or in your bag? And why be wasteful? Even if you recycle, it's still wasteful as fuck.

Bottles of water are very convenient.

Using bottled water, you:

1. Put the bottle in the fridge
2. you go with it
3. you throw it away when you're done.

Using tap water and reusable cups you have to
-1. fill with water
-2. it's not purified
-2a. if it purified, then add expense of filter
-3. put bottle in your fridge
-4. drink it, don't lose it, or you have to buy a new container.
-5. when you're done, you have to carry the container everywhere with you until you get home.
-6. wash it
-7. repeat.

For some reason an image of Officer Barbrady popped into my head after reading that.

HEY I'M NOT THIRSTY NOW BETTER NOT CARRY WATER. OH WAIT, NOW I'M THIRSTY SO I BETTER CARRY AROUND THE WATER. OKAY DONE IN THE TRASH YOU GO, HALF EMPTY BOTTLE.

and btw Eastern NC vinegar-based bottled water is way better than whatever tomato-based crap they bottle out West

its not an issue of foresight, i just don't want to keep up with and carry a bottle unless i'm actually drinking. its really not rocket surgery.

i don't always have a bag or my car with me. when i do have a bag i generally will have a bottle with me, but i'm only going to use it for the day and then it goes into the trash.

People like you are hopeless fucks.
You types are the #1 argument for social engineering through taxes. (which is 100% evil and has no place in a fair and just society, but then again, you "bottled water people" are 100% evil and have no place in a fair and just society....)

Funny how you mention the added expense of a filter for tap water, while overlooking the fact that with bottled water, at some 10,000times the cost of tap water, you certainly also have that added expense.

^^^^ What does it matter if tap water isn't put through a filter at your tap? It's already been filtered at a water treatment facility.

I think it goes more like this:

Using bottled water, you:

1. Buy Case of water.
2. Lug it inside.
3. Put the bottle in the fridge
4. Drink it, doesn't lose it, otherwise you have to buy another bottle
5. you throw it away when you're done.

Using tap water and reusable cups you have to
-1. fill with water
-2. it's not purified
-2a. if it purified, then add expense of filter

-2. put bottle in your fridge
-3. drink it, don't lose it, or you have to buy a new container.
-4. when you're done, you have to carry the container everywhere with you until you get home.
-5. wash it
-7. repeat.

Let's be honest... bottled water does taste better than tap water (considering that it hasn't gone through a Brita filter).

Still doesn't justify buying it though... imo.

I guess if you're storing the water long term then I can see the necessity of cleaning the bottles. With my nalgenes/containers I drink the water within the day, so they usually sit around empty otherwise.

You can't recycle the plastic used for bottled water anyway. It gets contaminated by all of the electrolytes over time.

So your concern here is that someone is gonna build a factory that adds arsenic to tap water before they bottle it?

^Nalgene and other durable, reusable bottles are usually too large for the standard car cup holders (correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to be the case for my family's 3 cars).

^^If I were to go to the city (Boston), that's an hour and a half drive (take a bottle of tap water for the road). Walk around a little bit (it's hot out), buy a bottle of water. Go out for a meal, waiter brings me a bottle of water. Drive home, stop and get gas (and a bottle of water).

^^^ I'm sure you can think of SOMETHING (like using a coffee thermos that a lot of people use), buying a bottle that does fit (have you looked?), or re-using a coke bottle or one of those water bottles. And in Boston, why not just re-fill the bottle from a water fountain, or at a fast food restaurant (most of them have water dispensers, and won't object to you refilling your bottle). The same applies for the drive home.
