So this weekend is my birthday and I'm looking for a good bar to go to. Last night at saucer with my usual drinking buddies we tried to rack our brains for a good place that all of our friends would enjoy. We decided that this week we would "test" the finalist. Could be a long week.

So my question to TWW, where would you go for your bday on a Friday?

note: I hate douchey/jersey shore places (Solis) and super fraty places (Fosters, EV, etc). Unfortunately its seems that those places are slowly but surely taking over the Raleigh bar scene.

want someplace to get drunk and sing along? Rum Runners
want to watch live music? Pour house
want to chill at a dive bar? Farmhouse or the Goat
want to watch sports and eat fried food? Edwards Mill

you need to be a little more specific...

Lol... A place called Bing's just opened across the street from me in place of Morada's. Bing's and Bada should get together sometime and have some fun.

WKNC Afterhours Dance Party @ Jibarra

If you don't like electronic music, and just want a bar to chill at, go to Isaac Hunter's, The Times, Landmark, Bada, or Ruckus.

Lucky B's might be the worst bar in town... it's like a combination of the douchey/fratty places this guy said he wants to avoid

I left it open because I enjoy all of these things. Mainly I was hoping to hear of some bars that I haven't been to yet. I will say that I love all the places you mentioned and they are on the short list.

when was the last time you went?

you know they changed up the staff and everything...I doubt you would know that. there are hardly any fratty ppl in there on a friday. You surely dont know what you are talking about.

last time i went to Lucky B's was probably 3 years ago

no desire to return

if i did, i'm sure i would see the same douchebags singing along to "Build Me Up Buttercup" and "Living On A Prayer"

They dont play any of that anymore, and 3 years ago is like 20 years when it comes to downtown raleigh

you are out of the loop, completely.

Busy Bee/Hive, Times, Landmark... really just go to Fayetteville and walk around. You'll find something that suits your tastes.

i would really like to like busy bee

everyone who works there (Metricula, etc.) is really cool

HAHAHHAHAHAH

someone on here said EV was slowly but surely taking over the bar scene. EV has been and seemingly will always be a staple porch bar that is relatively fun to hang out at with friends, but nothing special.

I love the outside seating at the Hive. And really, it doesn't bother me what type of people are there to be honest. I'm with my group and I have a good time with them sitting outside and drinking.

This is my usual weekend drinking plan and that's what I'm leaning towards. On Fayetteville, I really like Busy Bee, Times, Landmark, Big Easy, Issac Hunters, and Oxford. Are there any other bars in that area that are personal favorites?

I think i didn't say that right, I meant that fraty and douchey places are taking over. EV is falling off but the amount of fraty ppl is increasing

Isaac Hunter's Oak City Tavern. Reasonably priced drinks, great atmosphere, good music, and lots of games to play (if you're in that mood).

i would go to foundation, slims, the times, landmark or neptunes for my bday if i was headed downtown

the times is a good place to go with a group if you get there early to get a table (or a couple). landmark is kinda small for group ish. so is foundation. so it depends on how many peeps you have. and what you are looking for besides NOT the jersey shore and NOT fratty stuff. do you need music? what kind? food? what kind? beer - a wide selection or does it matter?

i would avoid glenwood south at all costs. but that is just my preference.

My female friends have requested somewhere that they can dance if they want. Of course they don't need to be at the "club" to dance, as long as there is some contemporary music (live music is good too). We're gonna eat before we go out so foods not a biggie. As for drinks as long as they're reasonably priced, I'm not picky.

Since I'm planing on bringing my own group I would prefer if it's not a place that's jam packed where it takes 10 mins to get a beer.

It's probably a futile question with it being Friday, but are there any good specials in the Fayetteville St. area. I have quite a few unemployed friends.

i personally love dive bars

you can come in and sit out and chat with the redneck locals

theyre always a whole lot of fun and will actually talk with people outside their circle...even the nigruhs
