Billions of people disagree with this thread.

But I will say it is the bane of my existence. It makes my goals hard to reach. I have a love-hate relationship with beer.

What is your drink of choice then? Probably some cloyingly sweet flavored vodka abomination.

I'm not a beer fan either. I drink it on rare occasions when there aren't really any better options.

The major thing that I have against beer is the sheer amount that one has to drink to achieve an appropriate level of intoxication. Give me liquor any day.

5 beers is 60 freakin' ounces.

I don't have to drink anywhere near that volume of liquor to get toasty. And if I did, I'd have to have my stomach pumped.

^beer tastes too bad to drink it for any other reason

I like beer, cause once I get drunk off it I still have my mind with me. When I get drunk of liquor it's a bad drunk.

But then again I also drink beer to drink it and not just to get drunk. I also drink beer to get drunk. That is why I have my favorite binge drinking beer and my favorite drink one or two with dinner beer.

ethanol is ethanol

doesn't matter how you ingest it

just matters how much and how fast you ingest it

[Edited on August 11, 2010 at 8:37 PM. Reason : liquor probably makes you stupid b/c you ingest ethanol faster and in higher concentration with it]

^that's exactly why. Because when I drink liquor drinks it's either a shot, or some fruity drink that I drink fast.
When I drink beer I pretty much drink each beer the same pace and I can judge when I'll get drunk.

On liquor it's like one moment I'm sober and the next moment I'm trashed.

that is a very true statement...

i had always heard you had to acquire a taste for beer and i always wondered why i would want to keep drinking something i didn't like in hopes that it would eventually be good to me...

then one day...about 2 3/4 beers in...it was like a light bulb went on and said "oh damn...i've drank more than 2 beers...and i like it...this is great stuff"

i gave up on liquor that very day

If I've got to acquire a taste for it...why?

I'll stick with the stuff that's awesome from the get-go.

Quote :

And see...the prevalence of comments convinced me that I clearly was missing something...and I kept trying beer. I still will. There's no shortage of people willing to give someone a sip in hopes of converting them Has yet to happen. It's all gross.

The way it tastes and smells...yes, that is. Alcohol content is its only redeeming quality.

I do...that's why I no longer get drunk on liquor. Because when I am drinking to get drunk I don't like only drinking two drinks and being done, I like to drink all night long.

When I drink liquor I only drink one or two and then I am done, unless I move to beer.

I prefer beer to liquor.

However, different type of alcohols will effect each person differently. That's why people don't drink certain types of liquors.

liquor drinks are typically too sweet for me - so sweet i don't even like one.

that said i do like the watermelon margaritas at neptunes, yum (but in moderation)
the bloody marys at the times, double yum
and the occasional vodka tonic

i used to LOVE vodka cran but even that is way way way too sweet for me now.

sucks doing shots/shooters because a plain like vodka or whiskey shot i cannot handle, it will make my stomach hurt or induce my gag reflex even if i'm not even tipsy yet. but shooters are too sweet and also make me feel ill/gaggy. washington apples are ok. and those orange crush things that taste like creamsicles(sp?).

usually i just prefer beer porfavor.

I'm envious of people who don't like beer cause there's this whole delicious caloric world out there that I must resist while they "just don't like it."

I don't like beer. It tastes bad. Smells kinda good though. I've tasted a bunch of different ones. The cheap natural light shit up to really thick & expensive porters and they're all icky. I can tolerate less than 1 bottle of leininkugel honey weiss and that's it.

I don't understand the acquired taste thing either. It tastes just as bad on the 10th try as the first.

I also can't really drink anyway bc of my MG, but I'm really good at holding my liquor so to speak on the handful of occasions when I've forced down enough to try to get drunk

^Yup. And liked it straight away.

Glad to see I'm not alone in this sentiment.

I'm smart enough to not pay for a beverage that I know I don't like. I.e., I don't buy beer. Period. Makes it kind of hard to be buying shitty beer

Beer is cool. The more you drink, the less you can taste the alcohol/hops/bitterness and the more you can taste the different beer flavors.

For instance: A blueberry beer tastes like beer for a novice, but it'll taste like pure blueberries for expert beer drinkers.
