So once again I start by saying that I'm totally ignorant, etc, etc...

So a while back I had some questions about all the shit on my mac and what I needed and what I could delete to free up space....well here's a question...something that seems to be taking up a relatively large amount of space in a number of programs are the sample files and 'theme' like files associated with some of the apps.

For instance, iDVD has a shit ton of space set aside for all it's themes.....now I'm not saying I'll never use it, so I don't want to totally delete it, but is it possible for me to say, put all those theme folders onto a flash drive and then bust it out should I ever want to use em? Same goes for Garage Band...I mean I don't want to delete them but I think in 4 years I've opened it twice...and once was by mistake.

Can these files be simply 'moved' to a flash drive and then deleted off my mac or am I really fucking shit up if I do it that way?

If you still have the application disks that came with your mac, just delete the whole program if you want and reinstall it later. I never use garage band so I just deleted it. I know that doesn't truly answer your question, but if you just worried about the space ilife apps take up have no fear if you have the disks.

delete them. if they came pre-installed on your machine, they'll be on the OS disc that came with your machine. you can always get them back.

well I assume I have the disk somewhere but let's pretend I don't or can't find it....can I just move the sample files etc onto say a DVD or something and then if some point in the future I had a major urge to see what is on them, then just drag em back to my mac? Seems too easy to be something that is doable.....?

You can delete all the other language packs, which apparently will free up a good amount of space

I assume you are backing up somehow (i.e. time machine). If so go for it and for some strange reason your mac fucks up go back to yesterday and bring it back.

this. i had to do it for my netbook since it has a SSD. i later bought a larger one, but still don't see the need for all the other languages.

Get a new (larger) hard drive, do a disk-clone from old to new. Quit worrying about "wasted" space.
