I transfered my PC into a new case (had been using an old dell case for a while) and now it shuts down after a few seconds of being on. I can get to the BIOS and play around for a few seconds or I can start loading windows but then it completely shuts down. I didn't change out any hardware, same drives, CPU, RAM, PSU, graphics card, and mobo.

I would appreciate any help.

Are all the fans coming on? Check the processor fan.

Did you make sure the stand offs are in the right places on the mobo.

Do you have another power supply you can use to test with? Also, is the power supply fan coming on?

Only PSU I have, it worked an hour ago.
fan and LED both come on.

Is the amount of time it takes to shut down the exact same every time? If not (or maybe even if so) it might be some how related to the power button. You could try connecting the power button from your old case to test this.

Did you ground your self and release any static electricity when moving the components and placing it in the new case, esd stuff. Did you reseat the processor and make sure it has enough thermal paste. Also when you diag the board go to the base components. processor, 1 stick of ram and power supply. See if it posts at the core then work your way up.

^ that & it sounds like the cpu fan is not seated well anymore causing your processor to overheat and shutdown.

sounds like a whole list of things could have bounced loose in the transition.

I'd pull everything, reseat the processor, heatsink, then RAM, then graphics (unless you don't have onboard graphics - then do the graphics before RAM). Step-by-step be sure to turn on and see whats working. If you can narrow down the components that are working correctly we can help with the others.

And we really should have like a sticky thread detailing how to troubleshoot a computer that wont turn on

check your power & reset buttons and how they're connected to the motherboard. kind sounds like one of them is on backwards, causing a power off after 5-10 seconds.

^this is what I was hoping for but the power button from my old case didn't help. I'll try the other suggestions when I get home tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.

UPDATE:

Checked all connections and it started working. Turns out, I don't have a problem as long as the case is laying on its side. Could this be a connection issue between my q660 and the stock fan? Do I just need better thermal paste (sorry if this is stupid)?
