"Tuesday was anything but a routine day for Deputy Brandon Jenkins, who spent three hours in his patrol car after nearly 50,000 honeybees decided to park on it.
The Wake County Sheriff's Office officer had responded around 9:40 a.m. to a call of a person possibly being attacked by bees. He found a disabled truck on U.S. 64 a few miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina. Behind it was a trailer holding 60 boxes of bees."

When I read the thread title I thought perhaps a bunch of bees had swarmed, formed a cartoon like hand, and snapped the troopers neck.

hmmm... apparently I was in a wedding party with the trooper... interesting.

I also heard the call on the scanner this morning and had a "WTF, did I really hear that?" moment.

I'm guessing he was hoping that the bees would just buzz away.

Do we know if this trooper has a bee allergy? Maybe he didn't move because he was concerned about going into shock, triggering more stings, and choking to death while being stung to death. Maybe holding still was the less unpleasant of these options?

I'll just give him props for holding still that long. I'm guessing the bees got into the car. I'm hoping they did, anyway, or else he's really just being a wuss about the whole "omg bees" thing.

Also, he is a state employee, maybe he figured it was a cool way to spend three hours? He's gonna post all those bee pictures onto facebook from his smart phone.

They got the 911 call. They must respond regardless of how stupid the shit is.
You'd blow a gasket if you knew about half ofl the bullshit calls emergency services respond to when they've got better things to do.

Ah, True. Still, he's a cop. Even though making him a local cop makes him slightly better than state highway patrol troopers for tax value purposes, he's still likely enjoyed the fact that he got to spend three hours looking at some crazy bullshit at work.

lol...this reminds me of my friend who's an EMT.
He got a call about stomach pains. He got to the house, asked the dude what he'd been eating, found out the dude ate a shitton of spicy chili, gave him some pepto, waited 20 minutes for the meds to kick in, left that dude's house, then went and picked up a dude who had a heart attack.

Can you imagine waiting for EMS to pick up your dad, then having your dad die during the drive to the hospital, then finding out that ambulance was tied up for 30 minutes immediately before they got to your house with a dude who had indigestion?

It's about as infuriating as the people who go to the ER to get off work for a day.*

* True story at Carteret County General Hospital. Guy was there with his wife trying to convince his doctor it was GERD/High Blood Pressure/Type 2 Diabeetus/the flu/the pox/bird flu/whatever and was making him run all sorts of tests. Guarantee he couldn't afford to pay for all those fucking tests either. Worst fucking hospital I've ever been to.

I was doing some field work one day in northampton county when we got dispatched to "a brush fire near the side of the road."
We drove to the address, noticed a spot fire about 1x3 feet in size in the grass on the side of the road, and kept on driving to find the main fire/scout the fire. We didn't find anything so we turned around and went to the address where 3 people were sitting on the porch drinking beer. The county ranger goes and asks them where the fire was while I proceeded to stomp the spot fire out with my left boot. They pointed at me.
They coulda drug their garden hose out and put it out themselves.

^ I can't believe none of my LKG bonfires have led to a fire department response, lol. Although one did end in a night a Halifax Memorial Hospital.

I work Warren and Northampton counties and have been on only one fire at the lake.
For some reason we just don't have many around there. That's a good thing too cause it's a nightmare trying to find your way around some of those developments.

Did some of you ever consider that by remaining stationary, the deputy kept the bees mostly in one spot rather than dispersing them, while keeping himself out of danger on a call that he was obligated to respond to? Furthermore, did you consider that by doing so, the deputy allowed beekeepers to safely return the bees to their boxes so that the "property" could be returned to its rightful owner?

No one was harmed--and neither were the bees. And?

Some of you aren't very bright.
