Another flight attendant makes the news:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/38751989#38751989

Quote :
"ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Police say a Southwest Airlines flight attendant took a baby from her parents on a flight from Dallas to Albuquerque after the mother slapped the crying child.

The flight attendant told Albuquerque International Sunport aviation police she removed the 13-month-old after she saw the mother slap the girl and passengers complained.

Airport spokesman Daniel Jiron says paramedics checked the baby when the flight landed Monday.

Aviation police returned the child to her parents after speaking to the couple, the flight attendant and other witnesses. The parents were not cited.

Aviation police chief Marshall Katz says authorities felt it was an isolated incident.

He says the attendant's decision to hold the child neutralized the situation."

She missed her chance to cuss the mom out, grab a beer and slide down the emergency slide.

This was on the radio earlier. The mom said something like, "I only popped the baby after it kicked me...that's all."

Quote :
"Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, questioned a Georgia woman after witnesses said they saw her slap her 13-month-old child during a flight, according to police reports.

A flight attendant on a Southwest Airlines flight from Dallas, Texas, to Albuquerque told police she saw the woman "strike the child with an open hand on the face in an attempt to get the child to stop crying," a police report states. The flight attendant also said she saw the mother slapping the child on her legs.

The woman appeared "agitated," the flight attendant said, and the husband was yelling at his wife to shut up due to her screaming at the child, the report states.

During the flight, the flight attendant temporarily took the child from the mother so that the husband could exit his seat and take the child to the back of the plane to attempt to calm her down.

The baby girl had a black eye, which the parents said was from a dog bite from an uncle's Great Dane, the report said.

Both parents were questioned by police and then released on their own recognizance after medical personnel examined the child for injuries. The family then boarded another flight.

Another passenger told police that they heard slaps, and the mother tell her daughter to "shut up" and that "I didn't hit you that hard."

Several passengers were upset by the behavior, the flight attendant told police.

According to the police report, the woman told officers she only slapped her child after she was kicked. And she said she put her finger on the child's mouth in an attempt to get her to be quiet.

Asked if she thought it was okay to hit a 13-month-old baby, the woman nodded to police and said, "She's my daughter," according to the police report.

The flight arrived in Albuquerque around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

In a statement Tuesday, Southwest said that, "The family was having an altercation and their young child was upset. Our flight attendant offered to hold the baby to soothe the child. Out of precaution for the child, Southwest asked that the local authorities meet the aircraft in Albuquerque.""

yeah that has all the telltale signs of ongoing child abuse.

you don't hit an infant to make him/her stop crying. that's fucking idiotic.

And even IF that is true ... why the fuck was your 13-month-old child left in a situating where a freaking Great Dane could bite it in the face?

Latest details make it clear, they are not fit to be parents.

Child services should make frequent visits from now on, and if they find any more bruises from a "dog bite from an uncle's Great Dane", they need to remove the child.

Sad that people could create children out of their own free will and then mistreat them like that.

I wish there was a license required to have children.

right. how the fuck does a bite from an animal with teeth cause a black eye, which is a bruise, not a laceration.

I got bit at the dog park and ended up with a nice bruise on my leg and no cuts... it can happen (although, I imagine it is rare)

Note: I think they are pulling that shit out of their ass, I was just playing devils advocate there

i mean, i agree that it's not impossible, but

- in the eye?
- a great dane?
- an infant?

even more implausible.

As bad as this is by itself; I can see how the type of person who would hit a baby to make her stop crying could possibly resort to shaking her after hitting didn't work.

I wonder if my parents hit me when I was a baby. I think I'll ask them the next time I'm on one of those "get drunk and put my parents on the spot" kicks.

Been on the flight where this was happening.

The mom kept exciting the baby and then we'd he make noise, she'd hit him, which would make him start to cry. Then she'd calm him his crying with rocking and whatnot. But then she'd fucking excite him to make noise and hit him again.

It was bizarre.

I once had to help a lady changes her babies diaper on the plane before take off. I sat down in the front row next to this lady and right away she said, "No one wants to sit next to the baby, ha ha!"

I think the real villain here is the flight attendant.

If she had taken my kid, I would have jumped up, yelled "THIS BITCH IS A TERRORIST! SHE TRYING TO DO THAT JIHAD! GET THE INFIDEL! GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!" and then proceeded to putting a hurting on her.

I always laugh at those when I hear them on the radio- not because of the message but because I think "really, are there people out there dumb enough that this needs to be a PSA- it is like having one telling you not to clean them with a brillo pad"

then again, society continually finds ways to surprise and depress me
