but its really the best thing for the slaves, you see. if we freed them they wouldnt know what to do with themselves.

in fact, they actually prefer the arrangement. we take care of them and give them productive activities and feed and house them. i know some slaves who were freed, but then they just continued to stay with the family anyhow.

PROS:

- Free food
- Free place to live
- Always employed, never have to worry about unemployment
- Often able to enjoy the outdoors for extended periods of time while working

If there were programming slaves I'm not sure how bad that is.

Free car, free house, free drinks/snacks on the job. Debt wiped out, healthcare plan. 401K.

Being the house negro wouldn't be so bad. Light, indoor labor, you get to wear a fancy suit, and realistically you're banging the master's wife on the side.

Though admittedly the part where you are whipped and hanged for banging the master's wife with no recourse because you have no rights is probably less fun. Also the slavery part.

I am taking an English class about African American writers.

This is all it is about so far. Hopefully it will get better but I don't foresee that happening.
