It seems every time NC is in the national news it is never good, usually quite bad, for instance I
just saw this gem on CNN HLN

http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/odd-news/north-carolina-woman-reads-n-word-dont-tip-on-pizza-delivery-receipt_100418163.html

N*GGER's Dont tip is blurred out but it was printed on her reciet

This particular subject might be old to some (I literally just saw it) but I think we could use a thread dedicated to bad national coverage for NC

i went to the new golden corral on glenwood over the weekend

B0j0s went through to the cashier that was white and was asked if he wanted to add a tip to his credit card transaction

i went to the cashier that was black and paid with a credit card, but she didnt ask if i wanted to add a tip

i thought it was interesting

I always hate going to restaurants/cafes with wait staff that doesn't pick up the bill. For some reason I feel their stare in the back of my head as I walk to pay with a CC. Anyone worked at a joint like that before? Do you just give the customer the benefit of the doubt and check for gratuity after they leave or what?

Tipping related question:

You go to a restaurant and order food at the counter. You pay with a credit card. You have to sign the receipt. There is a line for a tip. Do you tip?

I (a honky) went to the same one over the weekend and the cashier (also honky) didn't ask if I wanted to add a tip when I paid with a credit card.

I feel like they expect a tip, but I think of a tip as compensation for a service. If you just put my sandwich together, that's not a service, that's manufacturing. I didn't tip the Asian kid that put my iPhone together, he got payed $.20/hr to do it.

I can't remember the last time I tipped a black person, 'cause I can't remember the last time a black person in a tippable position served me.

Huh.

Depends. Do you sit down and they bring it out to you? Do they call your name out and you come pick it up?

I usually tip a buck or two because I figure they all split tips. Maybe those employees will be a little bit happier about coming into work and therefore keep making my sandwich awesome if they get a couple extra dollars their way every shift.

Are we sure she didn't read it wrong and it actually said "Niggards don't tip"?

Because that would be accurate and not racist. Still a little odd to be printed on a receipt though.

Oh, I suppose that's likely! On account of black people don't read too well and don't have very good vocabularies. Good thinkin'!

As a hardcore liberal, I should take my living wage and spread it out to those who do not make a living wage

Therefore, I tip everyone I come in contact with who makes less money than I do

it really depends on the place. i do this at ruckus all the time because i know those guys are sweatin their balls off back there and generally work shitty hours, especially the night closer.

yeah, i tend to tip at ruckus, but that is more because of who works there (I like every damn person that works there and they treat me right)

but normally to-go stuff I don't (unless the person is super nice or hooks something up)

I will either draw through it or round up and put the nearest dollar amount for the total. Unless it's a place that I frequent and I think there may be some future benefit in consistently leaving a decent tip.

if its not a place that needs a tip...

i just casually scratch a diagonal line through the tip and total lines, sign it, and make sure i collect my copy.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/27/north.carolina.ghost.train/index.html?hpt=T2
Quote :
"The facts: On August 27, 1891, a passenger train jumped the tracks on a tall bridge near Statesville, North Carolina, sending seven rail cars below and about 30 people to their deaths.
The legend: On the wreck's anniversary, the sounds of screeching wheels, screaming passengers and a horrific crash might still be heard. You might also see a uniformed man with a gold watch.
Shortly before 3 a.m. Friday, on the 119th anniversary of the Bostian Bridge train tragedy and at about the same time, between 10 and 12 ghost hunters were on that approximately 300-foot long span.
They were hoping to hear the sounds of the crash, and perhaps see something.
Instead, a real Norfolk-Southern train -- three engines and one car -- turned the corner as it headed east to Statesville, about 35 miles north of Charlotte, authorities said."

If I wouldn't tip paying cash, I'm not gonna tip just because there's a tip line on my receipt.

National News again:
Quote :
"N.C. Republican calls gays 'fruitloops' in e-mail

A gay rights group is asking people to flood a North Carolina state representative's office with cereal after the Republican referred to gays as "queers" and "fruitloops" in an e-mail to other lawmakers.

Rep. Larry Brown, a Republican, was replying to an e-mail that state House Minority Leader Paul Stam sent to members of his caucus. That message, dated September 27, discussed Democratic House Speaker Joe Hackney receiving an award from Equality NC, according to Hackney spokesman Bill Holmes.

The e-mail string, which Holmes provided to CNN, had about 60 recipients. Brown's response consisted of two sentences: "I hope all the queers are thrilled to see him [Hackney]. I'm sure there will be a couple of legislative fruitloops there in the audience."

Messages left at Brown's legislative office were not returned Thursday morning. The cell number listed on his official state page is not working, and a message sent to Brown's e-mail address was not returned.

Brown is running unopposed for re-election this year.

The e-mail was made public recently when Equality NC Executive Director Ian Palmquist received a copy of it. "I was pretty shocked to see a legislator using that language," Palmquist said.

"Rep. Brown needs to apologize, but we haven't received any contact from him, not a word. It's offensive, but I really don't think he reflects what most North Carolinians think about gay people."

Stam told News 14 North Carolina that Brown's language was inappropriate but that he was not "the speech police.""
