Looking for a hotel in SF on 9/19 for 2 nights. All of a sudden, there are hardly any decent places available. I figured a month out would still be no problem . I have a budget of about 200 a night. Any ideas? I've searched for hours. All this keeping in mind that we want to be downtown somewhere within walking/ public transport of touristy things.

I stayed at the
Best Western Tomo - 1800 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA
a couple years ago and it was a really cool Japanese themed place. Had a decent restaurant downstairs too.

IIRC it was pretty cheap too

^ that would be nice, but it's booked. I swear I was just glancing at hotels not even a week ago and it was wide open.

I stayed at the Nob Hill Motor Inn when I was there in April and loved it. It's a nice part of town, relatively cheap, and a block away from a good stretch of bars. It's a 1/4 mile from Fisherman's Wharf, 1/2 from Lombard Street, and about a block over from a Trolley stop.

Just a quick warning about staying in the Financial District. Most every place, during the week, closes down at like 10pm and isn't even open on the weekends. That is a true 8-5'ers area. Take it from someone who worked two blocks from Pier 1 for two years.

I'd recommend someplace near SOMA... though Nob Hill area is alright. That place may be a good one to look at.

Argonaut at Fisherman's Warf. Might be too expensive though, I was on Gov. Rate

There are a couple 3 star places on Priceline right now for those dates. You could also try the negotiator thing.

^ no availabilty. Damn a thought booking a hotel over 3 weeks away would be no problem. I'm tempted by either Motel Capri or doing the priceline negotiator thing.

If you don't mind heading home around 10 or 12 or whenever the BART/buses stop running, you could stay about any place. Transportation is very easy. I stayed w/ a friend in San Leandro and just took the BART and bus everywhere. Bus ticket was like $2 and good for transfers for 2 hours after.
