not talking about people's right to do it but whether people think it has a point or if people are interested in doing it themselves.

and lounge threads usually suck cause no one sees them.

If you're terminally ill and have the money, why not? maybe one day they'll figure out how to reanimate you.

^ that is what i was thinking. seems kinda cool.

what if someone you were in love with was terminally ill but you weren't and you could freeze yourself before you died of natural causes (aka kill yourself, essentially)?

if you were the terminally ill person would you?

if you were the spouse/fiance that wasn't ill would you so that you could be together in the future?

I think we should freeze our criminals and institute some sort of neuro-rehabilitation to give them useful skills like sewing

well you'd have to hope your house and other assets wouldnt be sold. i guess depending on how long you were frozen you could wake up to find a lot more money in your bank account.

Yeah but 150 years is a long time apart, you'll barely know each other anymore.

Plus, imagine waking up to flying cars and shit. total mindfuck

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/354/mistakes-were-made/

Bob Nelson was interviewed on This American Life. He was a TV repairman that wandered into a fledgling cryogenics society meeting in the 1960's and was voted president. When their members started dying earlier than expected, he tells a grim/laughable story of embalming the first bodies on office tables and trying to bend multiple naked human bodies to fit into the one freezer coffin they had. Of course their vacuum pumps broke, the coffins leaked and it all went south, but Nelson was flying all over the country promoting cryogenics and getting gullible people to sign more contracts. He had rented a crypt in a cemetery and a news crews broke in to find bodies basically rotting in open air. It's fascinating to hear him describe this macabre ponzi scheme he ran for years.

Despite condemning Bob Nelson, modern cryogenics is just as much a scam.

^^^^ well isn't that all shit you could take care of pre-freezing? get rid of all your tangible shit, put your $$$ in an account somewhere, hope things don't get fucked too bad, and then freeze.

LOL. sewing.

^^ but would it be 150 years apart? not really cause its not like you were apart experiencing other things, won't your last memory be the day you froze? so it'll be like just taking a nap. haha. this is so cray cray

By the way they still dump them in containers 5 at a time.

Here they show them shoving the body in a cheap sleeping bag.

that second video seems super old.

and being frozen when you are old seems awful

then when you come back you're just old

seems better to freeze when you're like 25 - 35. that way when you come back you aren't just an old person...what fun is life when you're still 70 or 80 and rickety and shit.

the only logical purpose i could see for this, is to facilitate in long term space travel. Mostly on trips that would last for about 20+ years, without having to create a functional living habitat. It would alsohelp eliminate the psychological factors that would arise during long periods away from earth.

If you elect for cryogenic freezing, be sure to use Alcor as the company to freeze you:

Quote :
"Johnson writes that holes were drilled in Williams' severed head for the insertion of microphones, then frozen in liquid nitrogen while Alcor employees recorded the sounds of Williams' brain cracking 16 times as temperatures dropped to -321 degrees Fahrenheit.

Johnson writes that the head was balanced on an empty can of Bumble Bee tuna to keep it from sticking to the bottom of its case.

Johnson describes watching as another Alcor employee removed Williams' head from the freezer with a stick, and tried to dislodge the tuna can by swinging at it with a monkey wrench.

The technician, no .406 hitter like the baseball legend, missed the can with several swings of the wrench and smacked Williams' head directly, spraying "tiny pieces of frozen head" around the room.

Johnson accuses the company of joking morbidly about mailing Williams' thawing remains back to his family if his son didn't pay his outstanding debt to the company."

So they suspect a brain that's cracked 16 times during freezation to come back perfectly a-okay? I think they are a-aholes.

I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW.. and run off into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, I wonder: "Did little demons get inside and type it?" I don't know! My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know - when a man like my client slips and falls on a sidewalk in front of a public library, then he is entitled to no less than two million in compensatory damages, and two million in punitive damages. Thank you.

I imagine I'd be pleased with a future society able and willing to reanimate me, but I wouldn't feel comfortable using resources on preservation at this point. Perhaps after the revolution and before indefinite lifespans, should such a time exist.
